Hi,

I'm just too happy to keep it all in. So yesterday was probably the most important race for me this season, the national championships. It was a sprint distance triathlon (750m+20k+5k).

The swim was in a lake, one 750m lap with two buoys, but it was not as good as i hoped it to be, got into too much struggle in the start and could not keep up with the leader. Managed to pick up the pace just before the first buoy though and finish the swim second, 9.34.07, but almost a minute behind the leader.

Bike was quite hard for me. The course was actually pretty easy, no big climbs, just straight pushing with a 10k turn-around.Tried to keep the speed, but still lost two positions during the first 6k. It was raining pretty hard and the slick on my disc wheel had near to nil traction, the rear end was just swimming around the road. First three guys got away quite bad, finished about a minute behind the third place. 20k in 34.29.5 was quite a dissapointment as i lost 2 minutes to the best time.

The run leg though, was the best i ever had this season. The course was pretty tough. It was a hilly 1.7k lap which had to be done 3 times. It had 4 hills, a bit of sand and tracks in the forrest. As i had no idea how far the quys in front of me were, i had to start pushing at the very beginning. At the end of the first lap i had a visual contact with the third place, so i had to keep the pace to catch him during the second lap. Managed to get him just before the secon lap ended. Pushed as hard as i could the last lap to keep him away and not have a sprint finish, as this guy sure had more speed in him than me. Managed to push away from him right at the beginning of the lap and kept the pace till the end. Best run time of the day! 5k in 19.14.4.

Finished third, both in junior age group and overall. overall time 1.03.18.

I'm really pleased with myself as running has always been a real pain in the arse for me, looks like my coach has done a pretty good job timing my best shape for the nationals:) I'll be in the juniors age-group for two more years, so i hope this bronze medal won't be all i'm capable of and get the gold during the next two seasons, before moving on to elite.

Thanks for listening, or in this case reading,

Hans

That's awesome! You should definitely be proud of your 3rd place finish. Like you said, you have two more years in Juniors. Plenty of time to get more speedy and hone your skills. You've just done something that most can only dream of.

Congrats on your day!
