Taken me a while to get this up but here we go...

NJ State Tri - Sprint (500m, 13.5mi, 5k)

This was the second time doing this race, last year I did this race as my first ever tri. And I have to say that CGI Racing outdid themselves this year. Almost 2,000 between the olympic and sprint and the support and organization were incredible. Detours, miles of traffic cones (literally) and lanes completely closed to traffic. The atmosphere was really incredible.

Anyway, the swim start had been changed this year. Instead of diving off the dock and treading water till they decided it was time to start it was an in water start from a beach. Much nicer start and I actually felt good in the swim. 12:00 flat, which for me is lightning fast. I actually finished with people from my start wave this time!

Through transition and on to the bike.

First thing I realize on the bike is that I feel great, didn't swallow as much water as other races. The second thing I realize is that I can;t shift to the big ring. Quick internal debate and I get off and fix the problem, then get back to it and try and catch the 5 people that just flew by. Probably a mistake to go out as hard on the bike as I did, but even with the minute or so stop I can in at 37:30 at over 21 mph. I wasn't too happy with the bike given the mechnical issues, until I found I was 66th of almost 800 on the bike, that improved my outlook.

On to the run and I definitely pushed the bike a little too hard. Suffered through and while not my best time not too bad either.

Overall 1:17:51, 10:30 better than last year!

Well done - picking up 10 minutes is great!
