Heart rate training for IM

Your coach needs to explain his methodology to your satisfaction on why he's doing that or you will need a new caoch.

FWIW my coach has me doing mostly zone 2 work for IM. He wants me to get faster and faster at that zone 2/low zone 3 HR. Not sure how you will complete an IM at the higher HR zones your coach is preaching. You may go fast for a while, but you're bound to bonk, IMO.

I recently decided that I was going to do an IM in 2008. I have been working with a local coach for a while doing olympic and 1/2 stuff. We have had good results at these distances, but know it seems as if we think things should be done differantly.
I have read two books on IM training (going long and triathletes training bible)over the last couple months. The common theme I am picking up is that with the longer distance you should train at a lower HR. Somewhere between Z1-Z3 for most workouts until you get to your peak phase. My coach wants me to do most of my runs at 85-92% of max and swims are mostly high intensity. This seems off from what I have read. I really enjoy working with him, but also want to be fresh, injury free and well trained for IM. So can anybody help me with the zones? Am I not understanding the books or should I talk with my coach and tell him we need to adjust the training zones. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
