Newbie Panic Part 1: Womens 2 piece Tri Suits

I have been in a bit of panic state as my first tri (a sprint) gets closer. Now, I am 5 days away, including today.

Since I am a swimmer and I knew I would get use out of it no matter what, I bought a Tri Suit from TYR (my personal favorite brand) for the swim. Now, instead of the uni one piece, I ordered a tank with bottoms because I am very tall and didn't want to deal with an uncomfortably stretched suit. Well, I have been practicing with it for a couple weeks and the shorts are fabulous but the extra material in the tank is floating about me in the water is creating tons of drag. I go almost a full 2 minutes slower with the top over a half mile swim. I have no idea how people wear them unless under a wetsuit, which I don't plan on wearing. I am now experimenting with different combinations with other suits I have but am starting to panic with not enough time to order anything and nothing comfortable for a top. I tried a nice suit over the tri bottoms which feels great in the pool and would be fine on the bike but my poor boosums don't have nearly enough support for the run. What do other people do? Any suggestions? I feel like I've run out of time.

Since this is pretty long, I'll post my other question in a different post.

Thanks!

You can try swimming in your tri shorts and a running style top - that's what I do. Since you're tall, you can get a longer style bra top, they fit tight and there's no drag. You can throw on a tank top for the bike if you want to or just stay as you are. Then for the run you'll have the support you need. The only advice, don't try to put on anything tight after the swim, you'll never get it on when you're wet and you'll be doing the wet top dance in T1! :D

I've seen women do tri's with a sports bra under their swim suit. You could try that...

For a sprint I often just race in tri shorts and a sports bra. Enough support for the run, and not a ton of drag in the water.

I do the same as kyillee or I also have a couple of Sugoi tops that are long and cover me up as well as have a pocket in back. They are form fitting and I LOVE them. I often wear them for long runs/marathons too as the pocket in back is great for holding gu. They have a built in bra so no need for that too. Similiar to these but no zipper:

That's what I thought I was buying but it's not nearly as form fitting as a thought it would be. I thought it would hug like a swim suit. Mine fits snugly up top but the material around the midsection is kind of loose. Maybe I just have the wrong size? I would think no since the bra portion of the tank fits well. This is the top I bought...

Are these kinds of tops designed to be snug? How can you tell which ones are and aren't. I can't seem to find them in any stores so I am stuck ordering them online.

That one looks like it SHOULD fit snugly (I would think). I tend to size them down if possible , mostly because I need the bra to be snug like a jog bra( I am a 36C ). Also , I like it to fit like a swim suit would--that as you know from your swimming background you size WAY down (just don't go that far)

Some are trial and error, and I must admit I have tried a few. In a pinch since your race is in a few days you could simply wear a jog bra --like I know Kyillee and myself have done. Not a big deal for a sprint. You can always throw a loose fitting tank on for the run if you are not comfortable running in the bra .

Well, I think I just bought a size (or two) too big then. Yes, I know from swimming just because the chart says 36+ won't stop me from getting a 28. (Which I will have you know several coaches scorned me for, saying it was too big, even though I physically could not stretch a smaller suit over my shoulders without breaking it. And I proved it by having my two sisters try to help me into a 26 - 6 feet just aren't fitting in a 26 even though my 5'10" sister could. It's just past the breaking point.) With crazy sizes like small, medium and large I guess I was conned into getting the wrong size by following the darn chart.

I would love to go with the pinch advice but the crazy thing is all my sports bras have built in tanks! lol!

I guess it's time to go shopping or start surging.

Thank you everyone!

I wear a 2 piece swim suit, the top works well as a sports crop top as well for running or under my one piece tri suit.
I also have a 2 piece tri suit that compromises of shorts and a crop top..
