Vineman 70.3 race report
OMG! I'm so glad he's okay. That's a scary day. I don't think I could've finished. You have courage Kylliee. I'm sure it helped to know it was just road rash and bruises.
Rest up Mike! Hope you heal quick! Glad you're okay!

Yeah I didn't know it was a car, learned that during the run. Had a bit of a panic attack hearing it. Only knew he was in good hands, and that my dad would be with him, so he'd be ok. I knew he'd want me to keep going, cause in his shoes (stretcher?) I'd want nothing more than to see him, but I'd be so mad at him for stopping and would make him keep going since in good hands.
I'm so glad to hear he is ok, that would make for a very tough rest of the race. Can't wait to read the full report but atleast for me all of the trifuel hosted blogs are down.

Check out my blog!
Yeah they are down for me too now... Hope I didn't do that
That's very scary, glad to hear he's ok. You're a trooper sticking with the race, that had to be tough.
Best healing wishes to Mike for a speedy recovery.

I don't need to get faster, I just need to get older!
First glad he is okay.
Hope to be able to open the full report soon...
Congrats on your PR ... will surely be a memorable day.
Continuing on must have been very tough.

Congrats Kyillee and wishes for a speedy recovery for Mike. That took a lot of courage for you to keep going. Thank God he's okay and no one else was seriously hurt.
I was on a training ride on Sunday and it had rained and the roads were slick. Two of my buddies went down right in front of me, both ended up in the hospital, one with a separated shoulder and the other with a broken collarbone and broken scapula. I was real shaken up having seen it happen.
Anyway, I can't wait to read your rr when the site is backup. Congrats again, and well wishes to Mike.

Believe me... I felt horrible reading your report.
I always race with my wife and always have a part of me worrying about her during every race until I see her cross the finish line.
Send my best wishes to Mike! I hope he heals soon and gets this guy to pay him as soon as possible.
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
Oh man that is crazy. I'm glad to hear everyone is okay. Hope Mike heals fast! :)

Ouch, My everything!
ky,
Great job under hard cirumstances! Glad everyone is ok and you PR'd- well done.
Congrats on your PR ... will surely be a memorable day.
Yeah, I doubt you'll ever forget this race! Congrats on the ass hauling you did. Hopefully Mike can pull it together for IMKY!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
We are waiting to see about IM KY... he'll have a long taper at least ;)
Wow! That was quite a day for both of you. It must have been surreal for you to keep going....and getting to the finish line was your big motivation, eh? Congrats on the HUGE PR! I wish you both the best as you get ready for IMK!

I think my biggest motivation was the information that they'd have for me. It just happened to be at the finishline... and there just after I got there.
Thanks!
I was at this race helping out body marking and at Run station 2/12MI. I heard about the crash about the time I got to the aid station. Turns out the MD that you talked about was a member of my TriClub.
I'm glad he only came out of that crash with road rash and a broken bike (which I'm sure will get replaced). But it was good to hear that duff was right behind him to see the crash and be there to help. I'm sure he was the one giving the earful to the driver, if you know him you would understand completely :) .. Mike was lucky to have a qualified doctor like duff so close behind him.
I'm sorry to say duff didn't finish the race and called it quits at our club aid station, but I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that he wasn't airlifted (like we thought) and was discharged before the end of the day.
Mike was definitely talking about the MD, and many times has said he is very thankful to him. If you could pass on Mike's thanks, and my thanks, and those of my family I'd appreciate it. I'm so glad he was there and stopped and helped... I didn't see the actual crash or know what had really happened, but seeing how bad it looked must have been really tough to then go over and keep your head on to help! With the whole crash all I can say is that we were extremely lucky... I still picture Mike lying on that stretcher... I'm glad I don't have the image of the crash as well!

Ok so this was a day of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The race report is LOOOONG even for me. So... face it if you dare. It will give the real feeling of the experience:
Vineman 70.3 race report -- LOOONG
If you want the cliff notes:
I PR'ed by 1 hr 24 minutes:
swim: 39:30ish (mixed with T1 in official results)
T1: 2:53
bike: 3:05:57
T2: 2:38
run: 2:03:14
Total: 5:54:14
I remember most of the bike. Then I came around the second to last turn to see a crash site:
I see an ambulance. A firetruck. Police cars. AN AIRLIFT AMBULENCE. I glance as I pass, and I see it is a racer in the telltale spandex. But wait. That spandex has orange sides on the shorts, LIKE MINE. That jersey is an orange tank, LIKE MINE. HOLY **** THAT HAIR IS LIKE MIKE’S HELMET HAIR. OMG. I think I screamed as I turned back.
I didn't end up staying, as I was told he was ok. Bruised and road rashed, but ok. Going to the hospital, but asking for my dad, and ok. So I worried through the last few miles, made sure my dad knew he was needed and to follow Mike, and I ran. I don't remember much of the running, but I finished and Mike is proud of me and ok.
After getting the rest of the story from him, it was a car: pulled to the right with a right blinker, and then uturned into him. Let me repeat, for myself and you: He is ok. He is sitting by me now.
