I've never been to the town or area before. I'm interested in any words of advice anyone may have.

I plan on bringing my wife and two boys (10 and 11 by then), and I may let each of them bring a friend.

I am going back and forth between trying to find something in town, or alternatively, a lake cabin. Some places in town are starting to book up, according to some of the rental websites.

We'll probably get there the Wednesday before, and leave the Tuesday after.

Also, it looks like that the average list price for places that sleep 6 or more is around $3K? Is that right?

I have heard CDA is jumping on the bandwagon and price fixing for 5 day min stay now with the local hotels (like many other race towns). I would recommend either Post Falls ( 15 min drive) or Spokane (20-30 min depending on traffic). You will get more bang for your buck in either of those. I would stay in Post Falls personally since its a bit closer and still less expensive.

Price sounds about right---for the time of year and number of people. Our Days Inn in Penticton was/ is 200/night for 2 people x 5nights, so sounds about right.

You might want to try craigslist too. People seem to have a bit more heart then most companies. Plus you could get an entire house or a condo for the price you would pay for a 2 bedroom hotel room.

Depends on what you're doing there. If you're racing, stay local. If you're not racing, spokane is a good choice and is ~40 min. away (that's where I stayed for 2007 IM). If you're not racing I'd recommend going up there when there's no IM going on. Seems like it'd be a relatively cool place to visit at 1/3 price, but kind of a rip off at IM prices.

Otherwise, with as many people as you have, I agree w/azstinger11--CL is the best option--rent a house from a local.

Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.

Certainly not racing........my goals, in order are to (a) finish and (b) finish with a respectable time close to the middle of the 40-44M pack.

Thanks for the advice. I had a feeling that the prices on VRBO might be a little inflated. Didn't even think of checking out Craigslist.

And Post Falls seems to definitely be worth a look.

Thanks again.
