Presuming your talking about bike chain stuff, the problem from switching from traditional oils is that you have to completely clean everything to get is absolutely bare so that oil can do its work otherwise it just sits on top of the old stuff. Or at least this is what the gear heads on my team tell me.
If your talking about stuff for the wetsuit then avoid anything thats petroleum based as it will eat way at the rubber on your suit.
If your talking about other stuff then there is extremely wide range of products out there to help stop chaffing, just go to any of the online tri retailers and check them out. Also look at like cycling magazines as they have been known to have a few good articles on the subject. Hope I helped.

Personal uses its BodyGlide before the swim and no need to add more.
I use teflon on my chain and hubs.
I think I'll stop there.;)
