I am sooo frustrated. Great race that I look forward to each year is on Sat., 7/21. So on Sunday 7/22, I bike and run the course and feel great. Later in the day, go out to a friends house and, like an idiot and a klutz, trip and slice open my big toe. Dr. says I might be able to pool swim by the end of the week, bike by the end of the weekend, but at least two weeks until I can safely run. I am so p/o'd! ARRRGGGHHH! Now I have to rejigger the race schedule. And Michigan's race season is too short as it is!

I am sooooo frustrated. Just needed to vent.

Ouch man feel your pain, cut up my feet a little practicing open water swimming. I'll just have some pain while running, or atleast thats all I hope I have

I stepped on something as I was warming up for my race sat. and cut my foot right below the little toe on my right foot. I tried some swimming and it hurt like crap as it flapped open when I kicked but luckily it didn't bother me again until after the race. Maybe i just ignored it or something.

I feel your pain.
There's nothing worse than training for months only to be stopped by an injury. I missed Muncie due to a back problem that flared up. I'm still annoyed about missing the race but stuff happens.

Keep your head up, it could always be worse.

Sorry man, but where there is a will....How 'bout duct taping the crap out of it? Would that support any injury and you could still run? Just a thought. Sorry, good luck.

Instead of duct taping try superglue. I know when I used to do a lot of waterskiing that the guys that would barefoot were always getting cut feet/toes from debris that floated in the lake. They'd slop some superglue on there and go back in.

I think most drug stores sell a medical brand of liquid band aid. Not sure how strong it is but it may be safer than superglue.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Or superglue THEN Duct tape!!

If you really can't do it then contact the RD ASAP and request a deferral. Most times they will work with you.

Good luck!!

You might be surprised but doctors around here actually use super glue for somethings. They just don´t tell patients it´s regular super glue.

I witnessed this while it was done to my brother. He was really freaked out about it but it DID happened.

Maybe Dr_rios can be confronted here by all uf us and we can force him to tell us the truth. :D

Yeah, I had a clean cut on my hand superglued once. When I asked what he was using the doc told me that was all it really was :)

Thanks for the replies and commiserating with me.

Checked with my regular doc today and he advised against trying to run on it for 10 days or so --he did mention if I put some moleskin on it and liquid skin that it would help with getting back on the road. He agreed though that the race this Sat. is out of the question --the underside of the toe is just too raw, but is healing alright and on schedule.

On the bright side, the RD for the race is crediting me my registration for next year, and I will go to the race on Sat. and volunteer (always wanted to do that too) and "gain perspective." Plus, I have revised the race schedule and, although I will have to travel some to do some races, I will race in some neat venues.

Thanks again!

RD's are usually good about deferrals. Glad that worked out.
Volunteering will be a great way to give back.
You will get a diferent perspective and get motivated when you are healed up.

Way to turn it it around!

Don't sweat it, I was out riding my bike training for 1/2 IM Cancun, and some dumb sh*% hit me going 40mph. My $3k bike totaled, me I had to have reconstuctive surgery on my left wrist with plates, pins, and a rod. So believe me life ain't that bad, I'm just happy I'm alive:D

Talk about frustration. Two years ago I was two weeks away from my second tri. Was out on a two mile swim in the ocean and bam, had what they call a silent heart attack. Wow. Quadruple bi-pass. Did anothere tri 10 days short of my first year in recovery and another this past may, so hang in there you are not unique.
