Muncie Endurathon (1st HIM!!)
Nice job on the race!
Steppin it up to IM - Go for it! :D
That 4 min penalty for using extra space in transition - if blocking an aisle or something then sure, but a vacant spot - ya it violates the rules but sheeze... that would definitely be hard to take.

Yeah, the transition/bike rack spots were assigned, and he moved his shoes over a little into a vacant one that had been reserved for last year's race winner who didn't compete. The guy said he didn't plan on appealing in the news article.
Congrats on your day!
I can kind of understand the penalty... it did give him room to spread out that no one else had. It was vacant, but there wasn't a vacant one for everyone. I think having a set of rules means that they should be followed, and enforced...

Congrats on your first HIM!
Congrats! I did Muncie also (race repaort when I have more time) and the wind on the bike was terrible. It seemed like it was blowing from the North - South - East - West for the whole ride. And you are right....the swim course is tough because of sighting the bouys and the sun in the eyes swimming back towards the finish.
Yeah, that run course catches most by surprise. I heard tons of people say "I thought this was suppose to be a flat course"
Great job toughing it out and having fun. I live in Muncie and I really appreciate how well run the event is.

Nice job and congrats on your first HIM!!!
Hey nice job. I also did the half Saturday and just loved the race course. Take away the wind and that is one fast course. They could do with a slight re-config of the swim course though.

My first HIM!! (and first tri in about 10 yrs!)
Okay so I finished, and thanks to all of you for your wonderful advice and encouragement. I met both my goals 1) finished under 7hrs (6:44) and 2) did not finish last in my AG (18/22 M25-29).
My bike/run splits were very slow, but I'm going to post them here anyway.
1.2 mi swim: 35:51
I was pleased with my swim. I had a little trouble sighting and swam some extra yards, but this was my strong leg and it felt really good.
56 mi bike: 3:07:29 :o
Really windy, seemed like a constant headwind to me, save about 10 mi. Course was flat though and I had a 17.6 avg which was my tentative goal, so I was pleased.
13.1 mi run: 2:54:45
The hills are alive! Oh man did the hills kill me. I wasn't in ideal running shape to begin with. Did a lot of walking, but I got through it.
All in all I had a lot of fun, it was a well managed event, and I am looking forward to knocking at least an hour off my time next year (probably in the run alone). My wife did her first tri (sprint) and she loved it, which is great for us as a couple. I've got the usual IM bug now too, looking at IMKY or IMWI in 2009. Need to put in some serious bike/run work, but that's what it's all about right?
Interesting note about the race, the guy who crossed the line first got a 4min penalty for placing his shoes in a vacant rack spot next to him causing him to get 2nd place. He was at 3:59 too before the penalty. That would be very hard to stomach!
