I was curious, on long non race rides do they let you ride with a tri/tt set up bike or do you have to have a drop bar road bike? I know a tri bike would not be the most comfortable if your doing most of the riding upright but it's my only option and I was looking into doing a similar ride?

They had all sorts of bikes on the ride. For this particular one it didn't matter what you were riding :-)

Ok, so this really wasn't a race but i though i would post this anyways.
I did the RAIN ride for the first time this past Saturday. It's a 160 mile bike ride across the state of Indiana. I didn't really know what to expect and was a bit nervous because I had never ridden that long before and I was riding with two guys that are very good riders.
We left on Friday to head to Terre Haute and camp out. All of the hotels were booked so we decided to camp. One of the guys i went with is in the task force so he had tents for us to use.
After we got there and set up our tents we decided to try and make a fire. Our SAG support had brought his little girl and she was wanting to make smores. So we bought some wood there at the camp... and uhh couldn't get it to burn for anything. They didn't do a very good job of keeping it out of the rain. We got it going just enough for her to roast her marshmallows for a bit but thats about it...
I slept a good 3 hours that night. The ground was not very soft :-)
We got up at 5 the next morning, ate some breakfast and headed out to the IL. state line. There were about 1200 bikers there ready to do the ride. We didn't have to wait long for the start. The ride through Terre Haute went pretty slow because there were so many people to try and get around, but the first 40 miles did seem to go by pretty quick. We had our first rest stop... filled up our bottles and went on our way. The next 26 miles we were flying... We average about a 27 mph pace. We had a little wind to help us out too :-)
After the lunch stop (90 miles) the wind seemed like it was coming from all directions. There were a few time i though i was going to be knocked over. It was nice when it was at your back but when you turned the corner and it was in your face it was like hitting a brick wall!
Overall i had a great time with the ride. Our average speed for 160 miles was 19.4 mph. Really good for me :-) We finished in a little over 9 hours... thats including the SAG stops and lunch.
I would love to do it again next year!!!
