Swim- 9650 yards
Bike- 134 miles
Run- 34.2 miles
14 hours, 36min.
So far so good, managed to get 3 of 4 runs done in the early to VERY early morning to avoid the afternoon temps. I also did a 40 mile Computrainer ride for 2 hours on the Kona course, just for fun, although I still find the Computrainer a real challenge. From a preceived effort standpoint, I find it much more challenging to hold pace even though my hear rate is steady. It's amazing how much gravity assist and the benefits of momentum help keep you charging ahead on the road.

Bryan - I have noticed the same thing about the trainer, i.e. it is harder to hold a certain wattage on the trainer than it is while riding outside. Two things that I think contribute to it are 1) no breeze to cool you down (good training for Kona though) and 2) you don't get any break whatsoever, the effort is complete constant. That being said, I think trainer sessions are great for developing power.

Agreed on all counts. It's like the Borg: relentless and resistance is futile...or in this case resistance is constant! You have to work the uphills, but also the downhills. Now that's ok as I always try and work the downhills and keep my heart rate up, but you are rewarded with speed and a big gear to push, which increase your avg mph and wattage.

Trainer rides suck...but they do seem to really help! I spent countless hours over the winter on the trainer and it really paid off this summer. But they do seem sooo much harder (and more boring) than outside rides.

Bryan,

What type of wattage are you putting out on your longer rides. I know you rode a disc at AZ and may not have a powermeter on the open road, but I think the computrainer has a powermeter, so you may know this figure...or generally, what is your endurance pace wattage?

I probably spend 50% of my bike time on the trainer because I workout so early, and it really has made me a lot stronger this year. Much tougher mentally and physically than being out on the road.

Good luck with your prep for Kona.

Congrats Bryan I will be following your progress brah...

I know I spent a retarded amount of time on the trainer while in IMAZ training. I watched the entire 3rd season of 24 in just under a month on the trainer.

It looks like it's around 210-220 watt range based on a few rides I did on it prior to IMAZ and this one.
