I've trained for the last 2 years without a HRM partially because I was deployed most of last year and nice things don't hold up well in the desert + if you have nice things you run a huge risk of getting them stolen ( no knock on my fellow Marines). Everything I've read says that I will get more out of my training by training in HR zones, so now I'm looking to pick one up. I've checked out the Polar s520 and the RS200sd, ( I like the run milage, pace, etc of the RS200sd). Out of these two, or any other brands that you may know of what seems to be the best buy for a price range of $100-$260? I want something that's gonna give me the most options and still be durable.

I don't geek out on HRMs...use them mostly to make sure I'm running slow enough and recovering properly. I have the Polar RS200sd and think it's a great little piece of technology. It's my 3rd Polar...I find them durable, accurate and easy to use.Don't thinkyou can go wrong with one. Have had Timex in the past, and just wasn't comfortable with it.
Thanks you for your service,Marine and good luck with the search!

I am a stats geek and I love to see the numbers for HR and miles and speed and all that, so I use a Garmin Forerunner 301. It has GPS and heart rate, and they are about $150 right now (on amazon). You can't swim with them though... but I don't use HR for swim training anyways.

i have the RS200SD and it works great the software that comes with it is also really good. The RS400 is also worth a look the main diff is better software. The most common brands i sell to triathlete's is the Polar RS200 and 200SD. You need to ask yourself how much functionality you want. If it's just HR and Zone save yourself some cash and get the RS100 but if you find the pacing necessary then step up to the 200 or 200SD. you can buy the RS200 and if you want the foot pod it can be purchased separately but it works out about $50-80USD more expensive. If you need more info i work in a tri shop, just PM me and i will help you out.
