7-7-7
Sunny, 75 degrees, warm
600 yard swim - 13 mile bike - 3 mile run

This was my 4th Tri and I think my best yet. I felt really good even though i was pretty nervous.

The swim:
I am not a swimmer, i have trained myself to manage in the water. As people know, i get motion sick in the water and i was really concerned about this race because there were already a few people out in boats and jet skiing causing a few more waves then normal. I tried to stay relaxed and just focus on getting through the swim. After a few kicks in the head I got into a rhythm. I finished in 15:45.4
Thats not the greatest but i made it through and didn't get sick :)

T1: 1:38.0 I am getting faster at this!

The bike:
I have been biking a lot more lately and was going to try and pass everybody i could on the bike. I felt really good and really comfortable. Finished in 39.50 (21.1 mph avg) That is my best yet in a race. All the extra training on the bike it starting to pay off!

T2: Pretty uneventful , 44.2 - except i did forget to put my hat on... but i survived.

The Run:
The run was mostly on grass which made it difficult for some but i think overall better for me. It slowed the road runners down a bit having to worry about their footing, but for me... since i play soccer i am used to running on the grass so it helped me catch or get closer to the fast runners. Finished in 22.56 (7:38 avg) which is pretty good for me. I am not a fast distance runner. I managed to pass a lot a people on the run and just focused on picking people off one at a time.

Overall my time was 1:20.54
Finished 139 out of 264
7th out of 16 in my age group (25-29)

The girl that came in first overall for women was in my age group... but is 29 .... ahhh next year i may have a better chance of moving up!!

I was happy with my race and look forward to doing my next one.
Next up though is the RAIN ride this saturday.... A bike ride from Terre Haute (IN) to Richmond (IN) in one day. 168 miles. Lets just hope the weather is good!

Congrats! Good race :D
Overcoming your swim issues with kicks to the head seems a bit unorthodox - but if it works...

Congrats on the race. How was the first ever Morse Race?

The weather is supposed to be great. I have some training partners doing Muncie this weekend. It was hilarious to see them jump up and down talking about the temp in low 80's and 50% humidity.

RAIN should be awesome!!

Nice race!

I'll be at Muncie (my 1st HIM), but I wanted to do RAIN also!

There was a poll on the website and maybe Muncie will be at the end of June next year so hopefully I could do both. RAIN sounds like it would be a lot of fun, good luck!

That would be nice if the RAIN and Muncie were at different times next year. I will have to let you know how it goes this year!

I did this race as well, it was my second race (as far as a Tri). I live close enough that I rode to it.
The waves made me nervous as well, but I too managed. I swim in Morse a decent amount but usually in a calm area. I have since added some wave training in.

I was not a fan of the run in grass as it was uneven footing. I mean, it was not a big deal, just not like running in a yard or park.

I would do it again for sure. I liked it and I want to support races that close. I just did the Cicero tri this past weekend for the same reasons.

I just did the Columbus Tri this weekend. This was a very good Tri as well. Have not written my race report on it yet but I shall soon. I chose this one over the Cicero one because it was longer. I wanted to try a longer swim. Hope you did well this past weekend!!

Cicero is farily bootleg IMHO. I expected that, so I was fine with it.

There are no bike rack assignments, so it is a free for all. Bad thing #1
There are a lot of first timers or 'one-offs' in this race. Combined with #1 that is bad. People were moving other people's stuff as soon as they walked away. There just was not enough room.

It is also not a very closed course and you have to dodge a lot of cars.

This all sounds like I am bagging on it, but not really. It is what it is and what I expected. I had fun because that area means something to me (I boat on this lake, I ride long much of the bike route nearly every week, etc. It is a somewhat mis-run small casual race that is also short.

One upside is that you can swim across the point to point before it starts (or you have to walk over). That meant I was actually warmed up before the start.
