Need some help..

So having just started my training plan for next season I was really hoping to do some weight lifting to supplement swimming and cycling . The problem is I know nothing about lifting weights and I think If I just go in there and guess I'm more likely to hurt myself then to gain anything so was wondering if any of you more lifting inclined triathletes could give me some of your wisdom
