Stress Fracture Of Foot
i'm a big guy with knee and ankle problems. i can't comment on the fracture, but, for the recovery, i'd plan out a slow return plan and follow it religiously. something like if you had never run before that involved a lot of walking and zone 1 level training to start. the thing i'm constantly confronted with is that it's not just the heart and muscles that need to be trained but the bones and tendon/ligaments too. they learn how to take the beating as much as the heart and muscles do.
I would suggest finding out why it happened before you start up again and then try to fix it so that it doesn't happen again. It could be your shoes (old/wrong type for you). You could need some extra support from insoles (SuperFeet). You might need to work on strengthening the tendons in your feet or ankles.
I just got done healing from a fracture of my 4th metatarsal. I was told it occurred because the tendons in my foot didn't have proper support and the bone was having to make up for it. Then the bone got tired and fractured. All due to the fact that I was wearing old running shoes at work where all I do is walk briskly for ~ 8 hours/day.
So check it out. See if your doc thinks you need to go to physical therapy to fix it or determine where the problem lies.
Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I had the 3rd metacarcel of my left foot and it was a real pain to heal (no pun intended). It happened cus i ran on pavement every day and used shoes that should have been replaced. Just make sure it heals.
BTW mine didnt show up on x-ray just MRI so make sure ur doc makes sure its all ok.
Yeah, fresh fractures don't show up on xray for a week or so or until they've healed/calcified. And even then, you can't do anything for them but rest. Running too soon can make it worse. I let mine heal for about 3-4 mos just to make sure. That and my PT (while seeing her for my cervical/lumbar spine) sternly told me not to.

Thanks so much for all your advice. Today is my third visit to the doctor. The MRI I had a month ago totally confirmed the stress fracture so there is no doubt about the diagnosis.
I'm hoping that this Xray will show healing so I can slowly get back into it. What I am finding is that it's a really crappy injury because you can't do anything for it like stretching, acupuncture or anything like that. Oh well, I'll just try to stay patient.

Hey guys,
Anyone have any experience coming back from a stress fracture of the 2nd and 3rd metatorsal bone in the right foot?
I did it running about 1.5 months ago and I'm not sure what the future of running looks like. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for another xray to see how the bone is doing. My biggest concern is that I weigh about 200 lbs when I'm lean and in shape and that's a lot of weigh to put on my foot all the time.
If I start running again, I want to do it smart so that I don't fracture the foot again.
Also, a lot of the stuff I read online says that stress fractures constantly recur. Anyone have an opinion on this as well?
Thanks....sorry about all the questions.
