Hydration system for long rides.
I don't like the camelback on my road bike. I use it mountain biking, but I find being aero it isn't too comfortable. Plus it does make the ride feel a bit different, and for my long IM rides I want my position to feel as much like the race will as I can get it to.
For me, lately it works best to just have 2 bottles on my bike and stop and refill them at water fountains (or occasionally from a store) along the way. I know where the easy to get to water fountains are, and it only takes a minute to get to one, refill, and keep moving.
I have one of the behind the seat waterbottle things that fits an additional 2 bottles, but I haven't put it on the new bike. I just don't feel it is needed. Plus it did occasionally launch the bottles, and I'd have to stop and get them anyways. (It does this less with the metal cages you can squeeze so that they hold the bottles tighter).

Yes, my biggest worry is trying to ride aero for 5-6 hours with the weight of a camelback on my back/shoulders. I will probably just go with two on the frame and two behind the seat for starters for training.

For our long training rides we did good with 2 bottles, we just made sure our path include places where we could stop at a gas station. If you have a product to mix, just put it in a baggy and bring it with, mix it once you get to the gas station. I would only bring the camelback if your route doesn't have places to stop of if it's extremely hot.
On race day I just used 2 bottles, that was plenty. I would actually dump my bottle before climbing the hills in Switzerland.

I tried the camelback for long rides - I found it uncomfortable and chafed a bit.
I carry 5 bottles on the bike for my long bike. I do a quick stop at around 56 miles (plus or minus a few) and refill - I time it for when I would be getting my special needs bag. Just a quick run into a gas station get some water - I bring along Gatorade Endurance powder - so just pour and go.
For IMWI - I also go with just 2 bottles. That works great.

I use an xlab flatwing (rear mount) with two bottles and one on the seat tube. I put a concentrated mix of my energy drink (Infinit) on the seat tube and Nuuns and water in the bottles on the rear. As for throwing bottles I have found the best carrier is the profile design cage with the "o"ring - I took them off my Aquarack (my new bike has a aero seatpost). At IM Australia I was able to use the concentrated mix and bike bottles of water as I passed thru aid stations. As the others have said for training I just have a few points along the way that provide the water fountain and bathroom as needed.
I've got a profile bottle on the aero bars, two on the frame and can carry two on the seatpost if need be. And I agree with the others about the Camelbak, not on the road.
I have a profile aero bottle in front and the xlab in the back with 2 bottles which gives me three---I can get 80 -100 miles or so out of it and simply stop at a quickie mart or park(water fountain) to refill. I usually have to go potty by then any way so just go, and refill. I would stay away from the camlebak, that does not seem like it would be very comfortable

You can go 80 - 100 miles on 3 bottles?! Wowzers...
For a 5 hour ride (100+) I need 8 - 10 bottles.

ok, well its only hit like 90 once --HOT here is not HOT there :)
my long ride last week was about 82 :) NOW for a run in that , I die...not sure why the difference.

Since the next few weekends I have long rides scheduled I am trying to plan out my hydration. Idealy, I do not want to stop to refill bottles. For IMWI I am planning on just 2 bottles on teh bike and refilling at aid stations as needed. I was leaning towards a camelback for training and was wondering what everyone thought of them.
I was just going to get the basic model and keep the two bottles on the bike. If that isn't enough then I can add two more bottles just for training. I know I'll look like a rolling aid station but I was wondering what everyone else uses for their hydration and or how well the camelbacks work.
