Post Race Beer
Well, not FREE!
But there is a beer garden at IMC.
The last two years I got a free beer from the beer garden staff,
because they said I was only the second competitor to come in all day!
I guess the others had simply been too pooped to party.
I like to save something for the beer tent after the race.
:)
anybody like to join me this year?
I'll be there just about sunset.

I will. Damn! That is the end of Tris for me till next summer. Am taking a year off these hellish things. Two IMs, five months apart really is a toll on the body.

Mike had cold beer right after finishing CA 70.3. Because I am awesome and found Heinikin at a convenience store just off the course. We got in a paper for it ;)
I'm not a beer drinker, but I think it is a fun thing to see after races. I did a 5k recently that had a beer garden. I think it was free, but I'm not sure.

Last time I had a beer right after a race was a fourth of July 10K several years ago. It was hot and humid. One beer and I was trashed. The wife drove me home and I fell asleep. Dehydration, fatigue, and beer don't go together, but who really cares?
Ummm...all of the 5430 Sports series races in Boulder have beer afterwards. In fact, now that I think about it every race I've done here in CO have it. I don't always partake, but it is nice to have the option.
Speaking of beer...the Guinness my family bought me for post Ironman tasted sooooooo good!
There's beer at almost all the races here in Tampa. It's usuall Mich Ultra tho... I dont know if that really qualifies! ;)
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
The Polish Pickle 5K in the small Central Texas town of Bremond has had beer after every event for many years. The post race is in the main street which is closed off. They use hay balls to make the finish line chute. Door prizes are everything from homemade pickles to a load of hay, plus they give away a heifer or the cash forit. And the Polish sausage is wonderful and the beer on the hot June day after a 5k is so refreshing.
One of the clubs I run with does a 4 mile fun run around the lake in town, and always has pizza and beer afterwards. I never indulge though, it amazes me anyone can eat greasy pizza and beer moments after running.
the 5k I did last week had beer and margerita. look for races spnsored by taverns.

The Lakefront marathon in Milwaukee (go figure) has beer at the finish. I have to pass on it tho, it would completely wipe me out.

Chicago Marathon has free beer for finishers after you cross the line. I have to wait awhile for that

I am in !!! Tried to make it in 05 when I did the race but they were closing down --seemed kind of early it was only 8:30 or so :(
I know two that do: Dunedin Tri, Dunedin FL has the Dunedin Brewery giving out free beer.
Also the Mease Tri, Sand Key FL gives out free Mich Ultra.
Mmmmmmmm, Beeeeeer- Homer Simpson
All I have to say is BE CAREFUL!! My last experience with beer post workout was horrible (passed out). Of course it wasn´t just 1 beer but again.....3 or 4 won´t ever knock me out in a normal day.
Based on feeling and experience I would guess a post workout beer is equal to 3 beers on a normal day or something similar.
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
Right, Doc. The post race beer is merely a celebration, a toast, not a beerfest to get hammered.I will have had enough hammering out on the course by sunset. One beer after a race or even a long training ride is all I can take.
So, Britt, we'll be lookin' for you. Libor might have to watch us from outside the chainlink fence 'cos his jeune fils is too jeune.
Hmmm, maybe Bud Light would like to sponsor triathlons again?
After all, it's bigger than ever now. Any Trifuelers work for breweries?

According to the ads it's the beer for athletes! I don't really buy it either though. It's more like slightly flavored water.

Olympic Distance PR: 2:50:21
The Chicago Accenture Tri had beer afterwards too. It was cold, refreshing...and I could barely get back to the transition zone to get pick up my gear afterwards. My limits about 1 beer on a good day (had 3 yesterday for the 4th celebrations and I'm still recovering) so after a race all I have to do is open the bottle and inhale to feel it!

-- Yeah, but you have to deal with the crappy race to get to that beer. Ugh. It is good beer, not worth the race.

I opt not to drink immediately after crossing the finish line. I wait for that evening to crack open a cold beer of usually better quality than is served at the race.
I drink so little during race season that I want to only drink really good stuff.
I did a 5k last year that had beer at the aid stations. I opted for the traditional water, but I'm sure boozing on the race course would've been fun.

I once did a cross country ski race in Steven's Point Wisconsin. Everyone who crossed the line was given a six-pack of Point Amber. Every April in Madison the 12,000 plus runners who complete in the Crazylegs 5 mile run are greeted at the finish line with free beer (Bud Light and Michelob Ultra, if you consider that beer)
If you're doing the Wisconsin IM this year I would suggest the Great Dane Brew Pub. It's only a couple blocks from the finish. Good food and beer and they have a nice outdoor patio. Or there is an Irish pub right on the square near the finish line. Or if you're a beer snob like me, Muduro's has the best beer selection around. It's also only a couple blocks from the finish. This however is the only bar in Madison that allows smoking (cigars only) but they also have outdoor seating. They have an awsome selection of Belgian beers. This is where I went last year.
Cheers!
Guess it goes with the name Mike :)
I did a race (1/2 marathon) once with champagne at mile 8, cheeseburgers at mile 10ish and, and an unofficial keg at mile 11ish. I passed on all (my first 1/2 and it was hard enough as it was). But my training buddy who was just running it with me took part ;)

when I raced the 'Killians' Shamrock Marathon in VA beach there was plenty of beer on course and at the finish. I seriously couldn't imagine drinking at mile 22 what every works for you though.
Looks like I'm missing out on a lot of fun. I gotta race somewhere else other than S. Florida.

MMMM BEER! I remember about 15 years ago I did a 10k here in South Florida and they had a keg of beer at the post race festivities. Never seen it since. Do any races do this anymore?
