Got Stiffed on Ebay

Careful when buying high priced items off of ebay....I just got f*d on a set HED3s from a guy with 99.x% positive feedback. They may have only been ridden for "400 miles" of Tris, but from how out of true/out of round they are they must have been XTerra miles. He said that they're still within spec (1mm) but a local bike shop confirmed that they're between 1.5 and 2mm out. I took it up with him, he offered $200 back, but that still puts me out $841, so I took it up with eBay customer support, but have yet to hear back from 'em. The wheels run smooth and you can't tell they're out of true by riding, but the fact that I have to open up my brakes a bit bugs me. That and the fact that I paid a premium price for used wheels that are out of true when they were supposedly straight.

Am I being too anal w/these? Any thoughts on how best to resolve?

If you could only tell they were out of true because you had to open up your brakes then he may not have known. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but use the safe harbor process to request that he take the wheels back and give you a full refund unless they can be straightened. Then I'd ask for enough money back to get them fixed.

He put in his ad that they were w/in spec at 1mm. But when I mounted the rims and spun 'em you could tell immediately they were out of true w/o any kind of gauge. I thought a full refund was reasonable, but he did not. HEDs cannot be straightened.

Personally, if he has said they are within spec, and they are not, then I would want a full refund. In my eyes he has lied about the product he is advertising. Dont take no crap my friend.

it is unfortunate that you have gotten a bad seed from this guy. i have made many cycling purchases on ebay and everything was exactly what i expected. if i were in your position i would for sure want a full refund. the process to get your money back takes some time, so be patient while ebay tries to work out a deal between you two.

Finally resolved dispute. The guy was not cooperative. A good seller should have said, "my bad, sorry" and be done with it, but he fought tooth and nail.

Ebay agreed with me that it was bogus and I finally got a return. Of course, I'm still out the $19 for shipping and don't have a set of HEDs for my next race, but at least I got my $1K back.

Renting wheels seems like the best option. I've got a HED front I'll be running at Vineman if my Dr. ok's me to race (or if I just don't tell him). Maybe I'll just shoot and mold some expanding foam all over my rear Easton Tempest.....

Indeed.... I'm renting wheels for IMmoooooo. Seems like the best way to go at the moment.

Then again, if you have a hookup at Wheelbuilder...

(Can we be friends?) :D
