Looking for advice from IM vets. I continue to debate as to whether to wear my two piece tri suit under the wetsuit and then keep it on for the bike and run as I've done with HIM and shorter races. Or to completely change at each transition into dedicated bike shorts and then running gear. The race is Ironman UK
(8/19) and I understand it can be a little cool toward the end of the run so I'm thinking of having a long sleeve UA shirt in my run special needs bag. What is the consensus of veterans? Pros/cons?

Thanks,

It's really a personal preference based how comfortable do you want to be during the race. If you are doing the race to finish that's one thing, but if you are trying to qualify then the less you do in transition the better.

I just did IM Switzerland and basically I did the same for IM Brazil last year. I didn't wear my tri top for the swim, I put it on in transition after the swim, I like to stay warm on the bike. I had arm warmers out just in case the weather was still cool. In Brazil I put on an extra pair of bike shorts for the bike but in Switzerland I was moving so fast through transition that I forgot to put them on. If I had the extra bike shorts on I would take them off before the run. In my special needs bag for the run I had an old long sleeve t-shirt (just remember you might not get your special needs bag back, it depends on the organizers). I aslo have an extra pair of sox in my specail needs bag.

One of the newbies in our gang of 16 doing IM Switzerland completely changed between elements, from his speedo to his bike shorts and bike jersey and then to running short and a t-shirt. He just said he wanted to be comfortable doing each compenent.

Good Luck at IMUK!

The weather also plays a big part in it. Last year at IMWI it was cold and rain. Having warm dry clothes to change into was a big plus.
Otherwise I won't change - tho new socks for the run is nice.

Thanks for the input - decisions, decisions...

TriNick - I will be in Southern Minnesota (New Ulm) for a week in July and want to take my bike to keep up with training. How are the rural roads of MN on typical mornings- safe?
