I hate reading long race reports (short attention span :D), so here's the deal:

Slightly long swim course, but still 20:15.....so-so.

Super hilly, very slow bike course....good weather, though! Dropped my chain once (oops!) and went 1:06 and change (not so good).

Fastest T2 of the race!

Most painful run I've ever done. The hills took it out of my legs and I died hardcore. Worst 10k ever.....44:03.

High 2:13 for 22nd in AG. Ouch.

Florida boys don't do so hot in hills, but the weather here in Portland was gorgeous this weekend.....and we took some nice pictures! My travel buddies had the same problems, so we're not going to Germany. We're using the money that we're going to save to travel this summer and work on our pro cards instead. Bad race....good weekend. I'm glad that my teammates and I have good attitudes about getting worked:cool: .

Sorry for the bad race. But at least you've got the positive spin down well.
You should be running in San Antonio a bit more if ya need to work the hills! ;) Or even the north end of Suncoast Trail.
So any ideas where you'll be racing for the rest of the season?
I am having delusions of doing the Xterra sprint in Jax the day after the Crystal River Twilight sprint. With an Oly in Lakeland the next weekend.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Gator,

Sorry the race didn't go for you as planned. A hilly bike course and run is a perfect venue for a national championship. However, I saw that some age groups had multiple waves. That kind of sucks. You really don't know where you stand. Well, I guess in an Oly it's balls to the wall anyway. Post the pics. Those would be cool to see. BTW how did Chuck Sloan do? He has the potential to win the whole thing, especially on a course which you described.

Cheers,

Glad that an off race could lead to a good plan. Good luck getting your card!

I saw a bunch of Gators who all looked pretty strong. Good job racing!

The whole field was amazing to watch. Hagg Lake is a great triathlon venue...relatively closed hilly loop for the bike and run with great scenery! The weather was ideal too.

Although...they really could have directed the swim to not be directly into the morning sun (for athletes and spectators)...AND they really could have put the bike mount line on a flat area instead of an uphill. People were going down left and right trying to do flying mounts at 0.5mph (it just doesn't work!). [admittedly, athletes could also scout the bike mount a little better] Shoes and bottles were popping off and scattering across the lane...it was like watching NASCAR and a little gut wrenching to watch those that tumbled. One guy I saw had to pull out after going down; I couldn't see any big cuts and he didn't break anything but he just never got back on the bike; his P3 with zipps looked OK, but the bike falling made me cringe as much as the racer going down.

Now that everyone's seen it, the field will be prepped to do it again next year, same place!

Congrats to all the racers!
