What would be a better mid morning/afternoon snack:

cliff bar, granola bar, protein bar

or

two slices of whole grain bread with peanut butter

The one that leaves you with $$ in your pocket to wash it down with a latte. :)

Bars are great but costs add up if you do it every day. PB is good but you may get sick of it by the end of the week. Find a happy medium and mix it up.

depends what you did that morning, too :) Also depends on if you are looking for recovery-type food (from a morning workout) or prep-food (for an afternoon workout) as that can alter the combo of carbs and protein to aim for.

Just remember with bread and PB that the bread is pretty high in calories for most kind. So I think of a single slice and PB as equal to an energy bar.

Like vanjames said, variety is good too.

My mid-morning snacks are things like yogurt, bread w/ pb, cottage cheese and fruit, pretzels, rice cakes w/ pb or jelly, a couple crackers and cheese, a banana or apple (sometimes also with pb), etc.

As Kyllie says, it depends on what you did and what you are going to do. What are your goals?

I have basically just been eating it becuase by the time 10 o clock rolls around i need something to hold me over until lunch. I think i may throw in some yogurt or fig newtons, etc and leave the energy bars for pre workout.

good choices. fig newtons are awesome pre workout snacks as well. you can also toss in some dry cottage cheese and fruit pieces with your yogurt to make it alittle more fulfilling.

Fruit is the best choice along with herbal tea. That's good to hold you over till lunch. Also if you can get up and move around. That helps.

I have some wholegrain bread with pb and jelly at about 10.30 every morning and sometimes a banana. the gas part is that i join the smokers outside for my tea break. i don't smoke, but they lift my ego quite a bit by commenting on my "healthy" snack. i just shrug and say i don't eat it because it's healthy, i eat it because i like the taste of it. the fact that i get some of my nutrition for the day is a bonus.

natural peanut butter is great. me likes!

very true, but it's out in the open air, so it's not like i'm in a gas chamber! They lift my ego regularly about how "fit" i look etc.... so it's all good! and yes, smoking = 'bleck'!!! nasty stuff

I have tried thehitman's recipe for energy bars, they are really good and are much more cost-effective.

Here's a link to the thread in which he posted the recipe, scroll down a little:
