new bike- training wheel questions
Right now I would wait and not get training wheels. You are still very new to the sport and there are plenty of other things you can buy instead of wheels. Just relax, have fun, and enjoy yourself!!! Leave the "training wheels" to the people who have one of those money trees growing in their backyard! ;)

I think the Shimanos ARE training wheels. Race wheels to me are deep dish or ultra light. The 550s are neither. For the record, my bike came with Bontrager 32mm semi aero rims. I train and race on them exclusively.
Save your dough for real race wheels later.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Thanks guys- advice I'm happy to hear as I was dreading "having" to spend more money for now
...and good to know they are training wheels- everything seems sooo much faster after the mountain bike so my frame of reference is more than a little skewed ;)
Do, or do not, there is no try.
yeah the wheels that are on the Norco web page are the ones that you should be training on. As the others have said save you cash. However what you should be looking for in a training wheel is a medium to high spoke count. You want something that is durable and can take some pot hole abuse!! ie bontrager classics
dont get bitter, get better

Although I've spent years mountain biking I've just entered the realm of road bikes...I just bought a Norco CRDOne (I'm in love!). The tires that came with it are Hutchinson Flash 700x32c on Shimano 550 rims - someone suggested that I should pick up some training wheels and save my current ones for racing...So, anyone agree or disagree? What should I look for with 'training' wheels? I would like to limit monetary output a *bit* after purchasing the bike- if cost is going to be a significant consideration.
Thanks!
Jennifer
