what blows my mind is how fast some of these athletes are. it is very humbling to go to and see these top notch athletes compete. just keeps me working hard.
a few times on the bike i was at 24 mph and next thing you know, some guys were blowing right by me as if I was in a stand still. pretty amazing speed.

Yeah I know what you mean on getting passsed like that. I hate that when I am all low in the aero hammering away about as hard as I can (completely disregarding the run later) and some one passes me like it's going out of style.
racing with pros has to be the most humbling experience in the world. When they post the results and I'm not in the top 10% on the bike with an average of 24mph, I thought that was supposed to be the 1 of the 3 I was good at but these guys are animals.

Way to go! Sounds like fun. That's an incredible improvement from last year...
Way to go fitnessman!! I raced also and took 11 minutes off my time. Finished 2:19 26th in my age group. What a fast course, good thing it didn't get to hot. Looking forward to Big Kahuna!!!!

I did this race last year as my first half-iron. They put on a great weekend, lots of good vibes. The swim is cold!!!!!

Seems like a good idea to share my race weekend:
San Jose International Triathlon
What an event! 1300 athletes. All shapes and all sizes. There were about 10 pros there who were mighty fast. The winner in the elite division was at 1 hour 52 minutes. That is jamming. I think when I blinked, he went right by me, haha!
Anyways, I felt pretty darn good during the race. I am not a fast swimmer but I did good. Just got in a zone and before you knew it, the swim was over. My transitions are always top 20 in an event, I got on my bike and took off. The bike was a fast course. Only 1 major hill but i killed it. For the most part it was fast and lots of down hills...which we all liked! Got off the bike fast and started the run. The first 2 miles went by fast, mile 3 seemed long, and then killed the last 2 miles. I ended up finishing the race 25 minutes faster than last year. I was happy with that.
Here are specific time splits:
.9 mile swim: 25:49
T1: 1:55
24.9 mile Bike: 1:11
T2: 56 seconds
6 mile Run: 45:22
Overall Time 2:25:59
23rd in Age Group
174 overall
now time to get ready for Half Iron in September!
