Indianapolis Sprint Triathlon
Good job! Glad to hear you're getting used to the swims.
Awesome!! It looks like we are at similar skill levels. I finished 244th. I had a terrible time with my first OWS too. The second one was much better. The hill exiting the transition area was no fun on the run.
Are you talking about Morse Park Tri in 2 weeks? I'm a bit concerned about the 600 yard swim so I haven't signed up yet. :o
stick with the swim. it only gets better with time. Honestly 600m feels exactly the same as 500. You won't have a problem at all with the little extra distance.

Yea, I am signed up for that one. I am not too concerned about the distance because i have swam it in a pool many times. Once i get started and in a rhythm i have been doing ok. You should sign up for it!!
Congrats to you on a great race!
Sounds like you had a good race! Congrats! Running ALWAYS seems to be slow after the bike. Perhaps another brick workout would help? Its good to here that the open water swims are becoming more comfortable for you...
As a female triathlete, I have to say that the guy who puts on other shorts over his spandex for the run does stick out a bit.
I did the same race. I would have liked it better if it had been a couple of degrees warmer. My swim time was bad (14:53) as it always is in my first tri. of the season. Bike was decent with a 29:46 for a 20.2 mph avg. My run time was 24:05.8 (8:01.9 avg.) which is close to what I thought it would be. Total time including transitions was 1:12.12. Placed 8th in my age group, (I'm 47) and 166 of 446 overall. My main goal in tri's is to have fun and turn in decent times. Of course it's always a plus when more younger racers finish behind me than in front of me.! Next up is the Muncie Endurathon. (HIM distance.)
congrats jharrell! Looks like you did a great job! Good luck in Muncie... I will be doing the RAIN ride that day. And i won't take offense that I am 27 and finished behind you :-)

So this was my third Triathlon. My second doing an open water swim.
500m Swim , 10 mile bike, 3 mile run
71 degrees
cloudy
drizzly
9/26 age group (25-29)
237/446 overall
First up the swim : I thought i was going to drown in my first open water swim a few weeks ago, so the thought of trying it again was a bit scary. I tried to remain calm and just focus on my breathing. Swim time: 15:38. I will get faster, but i did feel better in the water this time, so hopefully with practice my time will start to go down :-)
T1 : 1:45 - I couldn't get all the junk off my feet from running through the parking lot in the woods! I know i don't need them totally clean, but i figured if i still had rocks on the bottom of my feet, they would hurt when climbing the hills.
Bike: I felt pretty good on the bike. I have been practicing hills the past couple of weeks and i think it payed off. 31:15 (19.2mph) I still have much room for improvement but i can see what only a couple weeks did for me.
T2: 1:35 - maybe i should not put on the running shorts over my tri bottoms. I just hate the idea of running in little spandex :-)
Run: I struggled here more than i am used to. 27.00 (9:00/mile)
My first mile was pretty slow. They start you going up a hill both on the run and bike. The bike wasn't that bad, but i had a horrible side cramp starting the run out. I am not sure why, but then trying to run up a hill just wasn't that easy. Once i got up it and on the flats i had a good pace going. Oh well ... i need to run more hills
Overall i think it was a pretty good race. I am still learning what to do and what not to do in these races. I have another in 2 weeks so we will see what happens then!
