Hi All,

I'm a bit bummed. Just got back from a long ride on my S-Works Tarmac (2005 model). The headset was not smooth at all, so I brought it into the LBS. Not only were the bearings not smooth, they were corroded, rusted, etc. The whole cartridge came apart when we tried to take out it of the bike. Lesson leaned- grease that puppy. Long story short, they have to order the part, so the bike won't be ready until friday.

My 'a' race is coming up- Vineman 70.3. I have 2 more weeks of peak training before my taper. I'm a little scared that I'm about to lose a whole week (through Friday) w/o a bike. I guess there's nothing to do but go with the flow and swim more. (Don't want to over do it on the run just because I don't have a bike.)

Do you guys think I should go hard on the bike for an extra week and only taper one week on the bike before the tri 70.3 due to losing this week?

I'd personally go hard on the run training for the week w/o the bike and do all bike and 1 run (aside from swims of course) in the last peak week before your REGULAR taper. Do not skimp your taper.

You only have one bike? :D

Might want to give other LBSs a call. Maybe someone has the part in stock?

I think for anything shorter than Ironman, you only need one week of taper anyway. Generally, it takes 10 days to two weeks for a workout to hit your body, but I like to still do a hard workout only a week before a big race. It won't help to be faster at all, but it keeps the speed in your legs. Tapering isn't only about resting, it's about maintenance, too. If I were you, I'd still go hard the week after you get your bike back.

Perhaps see if the bike shop has any one with a bike in your size that you could borrow? I know the fit might be a bit different, so it depends on how sensitive you are to that.

On a side note, I'll be at Vineman 70.3, too :)

Thanks for the suggestions all! Nothing to do but wait. Track tomorrow... should take my mind off it for a bit.

Dont blast yourself just because you don't have a bike. Remember you cant make up for a missed session. So just rely on your preparation to date and focus a little more on swimming and running, then go back on the program once you have your bike back, the last thing you want is a running or swimming related injury just because you over did it. On the bright side you will have fresh legs!!

dont get bitter, get better

Werd...

Just don't worry about it (easier said then done I know). If you trained right this will not really affect you.
