I just finished my first tri - the Wild Bear sprint in Poland, ME. It was a blast even though I really did poorly in terms of time. My swim was so bad I should have to downgrade my endurance rating from a 1 to a -1 because calling my swim today a 1 is an insult to other 1s. It was windy and the water was very choppy so I had a difficult time getting my breathing right because every time I took a breath I nearly drown.

My bike was slower than I would have liked, but I managed to make up some of my time. My run was pretty slow, too, but I think that had to do with the major cramp I had from the swim and how much water I swallowed.

It was a great experience, though. The other competitors were all fantastic ad helpful with tips, enouragement, etc. Overall a great exerpience and I will definitely be doing more this summer.

Way to go!! As others have said, don't worry about your time. Its impossible predict your time for your first race, and difficult and never precise with experience. I'm glad that you had fun!

I'm with the others, have fun out there and don't worry about the clock. Crossing the finish line feels great no matter how long it takes.

Congrats on your first tri. I was checking out the tri scene in Maine and there's a lot of races up there. I bet all are under the wetsuit cut off temp too, even in August.

I'm sure youve seen this one, just an fyi.

Continued good luck with racing and training.

I'm actually doing the West Kennebunk sprint with my sister (she was the one who got me into this and was supposed to do the Wild Bear with me, but wasn't quite ready).

I'm also planning to do the Camden international distance the following weekend.

Congrats. Great that you had a good experience with it! That is most important. We all have areas that we work on to improve. Everything is better when it is fun!
