Would the eliptical help?.........
The elliptical eliminates the repetitive pounding of running and the weight stress on the foot, AT and calf so it should be ok. As with any injury start out slow, maybe 20 minutes, stretch afterwards and see how you feel, stop if you feel any pain during or after.
Good luck with the healing.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Thank you, John, I trully appreciate your advise. I have a history of getting a bit over worried about the kind of things that can mess up my training and racing abilities.
God knows I am not a good runner, sheeeeesh, I think I am not even an ok runner but I am stubborn and I love a challenge so, that is why I keep at it.
Tomorrow I will go to the Y to try this machine for the first time.
Thank you for your good luck wishes.

Yeah the eliptical isn't real running of course but hey it's definately not gonna hurt and I think you can at least maintain fitness on it :) good luck
Thanks Jstyle, you and John are ovbiously runners so your advise is right on the money. Like I told John, I over worry, that is just me but, the fact that the foot is bothering me is enough for me to stop and ask for some advise.
FWIW, I messed up my Achilles swimming. Ughhhhh!!!!!!!! it was so stupid, really. I am about to be a grandma again, in a few days so, I was swimming along and, well, I don't know about you guys but I almost always think about stuff while I swim, specially if I am just swimming long lap sessions. Anyway, I was swimming along and, I miscalculated a flip turn and slammed my feet against the edge of the pool. Needless to say, it hurt a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!! I stoped, kind of massaged it and kept swimming but, when I got out of the pool, it started hurting.
That is what happened and I am so angry and worried but, with a bit of luck and some rest, I am sure it will get better in time for me to get back on the running thing.
Again, thank you so much for your input and the good luck wishes.
Maria.

Wow and I thought swimming was one of the least injury prone sports damn that must have hurt. Well I hope you get better soon see you out there on the tarmac some time when you do.
I've used the elliptical at the YMCA so much it's like a relative. I almost gave it a name. Yes, it's fine for a few weeks to rehab an injury, as long as your achilles does not hurt (very important) in the process. The ellip isn't the same as running, but it's a stopgap measure until you can safely return to the roads. I feel your pain as I went through this for a couple of years with a calf and hammy strain.

Me too, but nowadays I have a permanently sore right shoulder that limits my swimming yardage.
I've got a buddy that does all his run training on the elliptical. It started last year, as he had shin splints and some other injuries and the elliptical helped him keep training. It worked well enough that he hasnt run except for races since then.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
This is great news for me, Triguy98. I am going to the Y at about 9am. to try this contraption for the first time. Running has never been my strenght and I believe it never will so, if the eliptical machine can save me the pounding of running for race day, I am all for it.
Thank you very much for your reply.

Ok, my left achilles hurt and I have a Marathon in October. I have not run for 2 weeks now and I think another 3 weeks off would be good so, can I use the eliptical machine at the YMCA? I have heard it is low impact and still gets you a good leg workout. I have never used it before so I am wondering if it would be ok for me to try it.
I still swim and bike, just to keep the endurance and fitness but I want to do a bit more to keep my legs strong. Any words of advise would be greatly appreciated.
Maria:)
