1/2 IM transition clothing ettiquete?
They usually only have changing tents in a full ironman. I wore tri shorts and a top for my last 1/2 and didn't have any problems.

Not fast enough.
2nd the tri shorts, the pad's not going to slow your swim and no changing speeds up your transition. Wear the top for the swim too, everything drys out quickly. The only thing you should have to worry about is getting in and out of the shoes. Socks, skip 'em on the bike and have a pair for the run, your feet will be dry by then.
Have a great race.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
"Full Monty" is often a penalty, so check your rules. Tri shorts are ideal. I guess if you have a taint of steel you could try to ride 56 miles in your jammers, but I personally would never attempt that.
like everyone else said trishorts are probably the best option and most half im's don't have changing tents (but check w/ the Race director to be sure) if they do have tents probably will be seperated for boys/girls unless it's a european then i have no idea what those folks allow. :)
proud and high or low and humble - many miles before I go

Tri shorts...nudity in a transition area will get you Dq'd.

and potentially quite a few laughts from any on lookers. I know I'm not the most cordinated/conscious/non-retarded person coming into T1 can only imagine the difficulties involved in a full clothing change that would be a riot

It would be a "Borat" moment to go the full monty in transition, but great entertainment for spectators. Also, a good chance for DQ and making YouTube. Trishorts, my man, and best of luck!
If you must you can do what swimmers call a "deck change", just don't let the towel fall off when your doing the switch.
Yeah man check the rules but if you have a changing tent there is no ettique rules against going down to the raw. I know I did at IM AZ I took everything off to make sure I was comfy for that 138 miles remaining.
Let me just clear something up after reading that I took everything off but put new clothes back on before leaving. It wasn't a streaker moment...

Even this can result in a DQ, depending on the race.
Just wear tri shorts, if your saddle hurts to the point that you cant wear tri shorts for 56 miles, you need to start saddle shopping.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

And the reason so many of my friends and family come out to watch "me" race! I finally went to someone else's tri as a spectator - it was great!

Thanks everyone for the great help..... and the humour....lol.
I've checked and the website, does say transition will have change tents... so I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead with my original plan and make the change into bike shorts for the ride and change again in 2nd transition. As for the extra time.... it's my first crack at a 1/2... finishing is goal #1, anything under 6:00:00 is a bonus so I'm opting for the cushy ride this time.
Again, thanks all.

Good morning all... looking for your advice / comments on something I need to know for my upcoming first 1/2.
For my race, I'm planning to wear my regular pool training speedo jammer shorts under wetsuit... but this brings up my question. Exactly what is the normal "change-tent ettiquete" for changing from swimwear to bike gear (and again from bike shorts to run gear?)?.... Are the change tents usually separated guys and girls or what? .... to be blunt, other than by doing some fancy towel trick I'm not sure how I'm gonna get from discipline to discipline without my fellow competitors getting "the full monty".
Thanks in advance....
