I am currently in the process of trying to cut weight and just wanted to know some secrets to a) losing weight in general and b) tricks to putting off hunger.

Thanks!

Make apples and rice cakes your only options for snacks, that way you only eat when your hungry enough to stomach one of those instead of munching when your bored. Aside from that, the usual - frequent meals, smaller portions, don't eat late at night, make sure you eat breakfast, and most of all: consistancy is key.

Lots of fruit really keeps the hunger cravings away. Small snacks such as almonds work great too.

I don't know if it's the healthiest way to go, but it works: I drink green tea....the caffeine kills your appetite. If that doesn't work, I guess try coffee. If it still doesn't work, try meth.

Key word SMALL SNACKS-- Almonds carry a high amount of fat. Though good fat, It adds to the Calorie content and can be detrimental to weight loss efforts. eat in moderation.

1/4 cup is appx. 19 grams of fat and 211 calories

I like this green tea thing, it definately keeps me from snacking. How many cups a day is too many, 5,6,12???

If you like eatting eggs in the morning, you can sprinkle some ground red pepper. There is something in spicy peppers that retards the signal from your gut to your brain. I cant think of the name of the chemical. Anything spicy will work.

Anytime you want to eat, take off all your clothes and stand on a scale in front of the mirror. If that doesn't work, go the meth route ;).

Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.

I don´t worry too much about the faces I would get if I brought a scale and mirror to work every day. But when I start to put in the naked part........realy don´t know if I would have to wait for good or bad reactions. (And remember a good reaction can be a BAD reaction depending on WHO is reacting! If you know what I mean:cool: )

Jicama is a great thing that you can eat. Lots of fiber, and lots of water. I am not sure if it will be as easy to find in IA as it is here in CA... Very popular with the Hispanic community here. I had never heard of it before my Mexican girlfriend introduced me to it. It's 45 calories for a full cup with 4g of fiber, and it's really yummy and refreshing. Just cut one of these babies up and carry some pieces with you to work, or leave them out at home. I guarantee that they will help you curb cravings, and FILL YOU UP. Carrots are also great to munch on.

I've done the light olive oil thing. One tablespoon about an hour after dinner. It satiates you, is relatively good for you, and the light version is tasteless, so you don't equate a flavor with it.

Also, here's info on Jicama: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jicama

I thought it was interesting that the Jicama root is used for many purposes, including being eaten raw, but the rest is very poisonous. Yikes!

Quote:
In contrast to the root, the remainder of the jícama plant is very poisonous; the seeds contain the toxin rotenone, which is used to poison insects and fish.
