I just signed up for my next two races- one sprint and one Oly. $150+ is races fees is a kick in the nuts!
Good thing I enjoy it- the sport, that is, not the kick in the nuts.

One of em is the lowest price sprint in the state @ 45, but its 1.5 hours away, and kinda in the middle of nowhere, so thats one of its draws. And a $100 Oly.

Hopefully you'll at least be able to race...

My "A" race (CapTex) was rained out and it had a $120 fee

My "A" race is in October- one of the busier months of hurricane season, so we'll see.

I hear you. For some reason I don't quite understand I'll be doing my fourth sprint of the year Sunday, with another sprint and Oly in July and early August. If you include travel and incidentals it can get real expensive.

HIMs here in VA are about $130. $100 plus for an Oly seems steep.

Try $180 for NYC Nautica Oly, lol. Then, check out the list of sponsors... they have to be raking it in.

"Depending on the size of the frog is the size of the rock you should use" (very old saying around here) I´m guessing that because the average income of a regular guy around here is so different from that same guy if he lived in the states all prices have to be in that same perspective.

My A race (which happens to be the most expensive one) is something near $35.- and believe me......it´s a damn good race. Maybe we don´t have all the little details you have in the states (mile markers etc). But it´s one of the most beautiful race courses I have ever seen.

So..........sorry for you :D ji ji ji

My wallet IS HURTING but because of equipment!!!!!! I have to pay more for equipment than any of you guys because of taxes etc.

Hey, it could be worse. I'm heading off to my A race next week:

$60 gas to the Orlando airport (my car only drinks premium :()
$595 plane ticket
$100 airline bike fees
$150 hotel
$100 rental car
$134 race entry (just an Oly, too!)

Grand total: $1005 without 4 days worth of food. Actually, that's the first time I've added it all up.....ouch:D

I'm waiting for someone to chime in with a priceless comment, cuz I'm really just not feeling one right now!

I feel you on that... I don't even like counting up what I paid for IM AZ to race that one.

What kind of car do you drive? I have been stuck with that as well for the last few I have had
Corvette
GTO
Trans Am

It sucks shelling out at the pump but it is so worth it when you are pushing over 400 to the ground...

Sometimes I struggle with spending money on triathlons and all the related expenses, and balancing that with family and other priorities. I'm doing six or so tris this summer, but will likely limit that to 3-4 in the future, which is enough. Mix in a sprint or two, an oly, and finish with a HIM. Maybe do a running or cycling event for variety. That's still a pretty full summer.

Wow....yours are faster than mine! But I'll bet I get better gas mileage, though....sometimes I'm even over 20 mpg. Porsche 924S. Definitely not pushing 400! :D

You would actually be suprised my 99 vette pushed 421hp to the ground and as long as I didn't punch it all the time I got 26mpg on my way down to the beach in North Carolina... city was normally about 18-20mpg...

This was my fastest car I have had yet:
Damn that car was a lot of fun but I got burnt out of the vette community...

I bought an 05 Goat that I am working on now...

It's a head and cammed worked ls1 with a stupid amount of money into it :/ Man that car was a blast to drive, it's pretty cool when you punch it at 70mph (all throttle no clutch) on the highway and the back end starts to step out on you... I tried to get it on the track a bunch of times but I could never make it out there. Stupid job... I regreted it because I had a little of everything done to it, I could have cut some really good laps out at the local race track. As far as the straightline goes I think I might have been able to grab low 12's in the 1/4 but who knows...

Damn that's fast! My Porsche doesn't do the straight line thing too well (compared to your 'vette, anyway), but I'm racing it for the first time in a couple weeks....autocross. At less than 2800 lbs and the fact that it corners like nobody's business I should turn out some good times. I used to race a 240SX, but the Porsche feels faster....I guess I'll find out in July. Do you still have the car?

No I unloaded the vette and bought the GTO. It's only a straight line car for the most part and a good 400HP commuter :) I plan on getting a c4 vette to turn into a race car and keep in the garage for some AutoX and road racing here soon at like VIR or Summit Point Raceway. I miss being out there on the race track...

Triathlon is a sport for rich people (not RICH but those who can afford some expenses)... no doubt about it. At least here in Brazil things are much more "expensive" because our "buypower" is not as big as yours.

Yeah, try being a poor college student trying to race. The cost of these events kills me. Especially when you miss the first registration cut-off and the price goes up. Actually I graduated last year so now I'm the poor post-grad who makes just enough $ to pay rent and eat. And have you ever registered for an IM. The cost of a sprint tri seems like pocket change after I registered for IM Arizona. I paid $450 and I hadn't even booked a flight, or reserved a hotel or rental car. And I'd do it all over again for the love of the sport! Just couldn't afford the ASI race photos afterwards! :)

heck even the Days Inn in Pentiction is $250/night and now that the dollar is almost even that means its ooh... $250/night basically. PLUS the 5 night min. That was just due here a few weeks ago, so know what you all mean.
