Hi Guys, well my financial situation's finally improving, so i'm going to outlay a fair bit of coin on this:

Last season i used a mtb with slicks, it's not very light, but did the job. In the dublin tri i averaged just over 30kph for the 40k. (not great, but hey, it was my first time!) Assuming all things equal, what sort of speed increases would a properly set up road bike deliver over that? (same course/weather/fitness levels etc...) I reckon to make it worth my while i'd want to be hitting 33kph or more with a similar effort. Would that be attainable?

Also, i used a terrible, ill fitting windsurfing wetsuit last year, would i notice much of an improvement with the wetsuit included in that pack?

And finally, the aerobars, from what i hear, they're not great, what would be a suitable upgrade? I'm going to try to upgrade them on the day when i buy and not add them on later on!

I'm working 65hrs a week this summer, so this is my reward! I'm quite excited. I should have the cash in the next two weeks, so wooo!!!

Sorry, these where the bars i was looking at. I've seen posts about 'T2' bars-are these the ones?

I think it is reasonable to hope for 33Kph going to a road bike. Initially, I started out with a mountain bike with slick tires and did about like you. Presently, I have a road bike and am getting a little more than 33Kph now on the bike leg. And, I don't have aerobars and I use flat pedals. You will love the road bike: congratulations...

Why not just get a tri bike?

Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.

Hey Bouli...nice set up...I think if you can buy one bike,a road bike is a better bet than a tri specific bike. Folks have their preferences but my opinion is that tri bikes are for...well,tri's, not necessarily for all around riding...I have road bike, I HAD a tri bike and find the road bike far superior for general riding in all kinds of road conditions.
