Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

Wednesday June 13th, was the National Dutch Military Triathlon Championship – Olympic Distance. Held in Dronten, as always.
This year had a premiere, there was also a Duathlon that took place before the tri.
The gun for the Olympic tri went off at 12.00 and the 1500mtr swim was an out and back.
We where swimming upstream on the way back. Still I managed a 21’58” which was a personal best for me. The double loop bike course is always slow in Dronten. Lots of head and side wind. Most of my competitors swam faster and I rode slightly faster then me so I rode alone. After 01.04’39” I rode into T2. The 10k was a four loops. And I tried to run down the athlete in 5th place, he was 3’01” up. But Sjaco kamer and I both ran strong and I only managed to reel him back in 1’30”. I finished in 02.05’42” and in sixth place, just like last year.
I’m content with the result. Last year the race was held in August and I already peaked in the Antwerp Ironman 70.3. This year it was two months earlier and while still not in peak shape, I managed the same result and overall time. With a new swim personal best! It was good to see most of my competitors and catch up with them.
Check out my blog for race pics
Take care, Noel.
