Ok, this might be a reaaaaallllyyy dumb question, but risking my e-reputation, here it goes...
Out of all of the varieties of apples, which one is the healthiest (which is kind of hard to define) and most importantly, in terms of GI, fiber content, antioxidants and other goodies... what are the differences between the main varites of apples?

P.S: how you like 'em apples?!

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but to get to the core of the matter, Granny Smith is unequivocally and undeniably the apple of my eye. At a whoppoing 3.5-5 grams of fiber there's nothing seedy about this apple. And, it goes the best with peanut butter.

I go apple picking every year and I think it's safe to say... the apple does not fall far from the tree. :D

Don't know about all the nutrition details for each apple, but I think the best is the Honey Crisp from Michigan. Ohh man, those are some good apples :p

Cameo or Braeburn
My favorite and are quite nutritious as well
But all apples are, so you can't really go wrong
But if Apples follow the same trend as most other fruits, the Redder the Better (for you).

Alright, the nutrition facts between apple varieties are the same. The only variable is the size. Apples are great for 2 reasons. First, Pectin which is a type of (very user friendly)soluble fiber and second, the levels of Boron which help to harden bones and fight osteoporosis. My pick goes to a new type of apple called Jazz. It tastes like a cross Royal Gala and Braeburn. If you can find it it's very worth while and I highly suggest it. :).

My girlfriend works in the produce industry and since south of the equator apple season is coming up the last 2 months of my life have been jam packed with apples.

Ouch, My everything!

Yeah, those Michigan Honey crisps are pretty darn good. We also make a great Cherry up here in the mitten. Great food for energy.

For sure the Honey Crisp apples. Sucks that they are only available for like 6 weeks a year. When I cannot get those I would have to go for the Fuji apples.

My fav to eat are fuji apples. However, as with other fruits and veggies, the darker the better. So something with a skin that is darker red is has more nutrients.

I am also a Fuji fan and as far as fiber goes I have always been told the dark the better.

My vote is for the Granny Smith; I hate to admit that, after living in MI for 15 yrs., I have never tasted (or even heard of) the honey crisp, until now. TriFuel kicking Google's butt once again for relevant info that affects my life! LOL.

From the sounds of it, it's time for me to experience the good life here in MI (besides asparagus and blueberries, oh yeah, and the cherries too) and get me some of them there Honey Crisps. Guess I have to wait until Sept. to taste one.

But Granny Smith is a part of my day everyday after my workout.

I personally think store bought apples arent as good as those right off the tree. Go to a fruit farm, and pick a few. Yum. If I can't get over to my local farm, I go with fuji also. ;p

Who'd of thought a question on apples would go this long? :D
