Hy-Vee Triathlon
I'll be doing the race. I'm doing a sprint in davenport the day before so I won't be on town till saturday night. It should be a pretty amazing race, I've rode the bike course before and it is going be very very fast.

My understanding is that the bike course is very flat with only a minor hill in the beginning/end of the course. There is one point that we have to go through a parking lot which will slow things down and then maybe something about going over train tracks? Do you know anything about the train tracks, do you need to slow down much or are they pretty smooth? Also will traffic be an issue? What kind of AG average speed ranges are you thinking...maybe 23-25mph for the top guys or more like 25+?

Is it an ITU race, or is it standard rules with just a lot of ITU pros racing it? That would obviously affect top speeds.
Good luck to both of you. I'll be gutting out the Horribly Hilly Hundreds short course this weekend a few miles to the east.
It is an ITU race but I have not seen an official list of which pros will be there although I assume most of the top ones will attend due to the level of prize money, etc.

It is starting to look like the race will be a non wetsuit race. This will probably not be exciting news for alot of people since I have heard that a very high percentage of the racers are first timers. Should be interesting!

it has been hot here lately which is making the water a little too warm. And the rumor is that almost all of the top ranked ITU are going to be competing. This race is going to attract a lot of pros since it is an 2008 olympics qualifying race. see you sunday!

Is anyone going to be at the Hy-Vee triathlon in Des Moines, IA this weekend? It is looking to be a great race with a $700,000+ total prize purse which should draw plenty of ITU pros.

I am going to get there on Friday and take advantage of being able to pre-swim the race course. Hope to see some Tri-Fuelers at the race! Look for me on the Planet-X Bike!
