Hi Everyone,

After my sprint this weekend I'm going to get focused on training for an Oly in September. How does the following schedule look to you?

Monday - Long Bike (2-3hr), Long Swim (40-60min)
Tuesday - REST
Wednesday - Long Run (6-10miles), Yoga
Thursday - Short Bike (1hr), Short Swim* (20-30min)
Friday - Short Run (4.5 miles), Short Bike* (1hr)
Saturday - Yoga
Sunday - Short Swim (20-30min), Short Bike (1 hr), Short Run* (4.5)

Mainly I'm wondering if I'm getting enough hours and distance in. Workouts marked with an * may be speed workouts, but probably not every week.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Wow you have a lot of time if you can bike 3 hours on a weekday I am jealous.
The only thing I noticed is the all three work out with speed work involved. You don't want to over tax yourself.

Thanks for the feedback. How often do you recommend a speed workout? Should it be maybe only one sport per week? Or not even that often. I'm really slow anyway, so maybe I should save the speed workouts for next year as I'm mainly concerned with finishing the Oly.

It looks pretty good....your balance is pretty nice. I'd make your swims a bit longer, though. Olympic is the most swim-heavy of all the distances, so maybe do 45 min on your short days and 1 hr (more if you can handle it) on the long days. Also, with only 3 days a week, you can swim hard each time and not worry about it. The muscles are different from your biking and running, so swimming hard won't affect the rest of your training much.

Also, having that speed work on Sunday followed by a long ride on Monday might cause problems. If you could put a day between, I'd think that it would be more ideal. Also, if you did that, you could probably handle doing the bike hard on Sunday, too. Nothing gets you in better shape than a brick with intervals on the bike and run. My interval day is normally a 2 hr ride w/4x8 min over lactate followed by a track workout (usually repeat 1000s at 5k pace or something). I'll swim about 1 hr later that day.

That looks ok to me. Its not all that different from what I do. How slow do you mean by slow? I think that if you can do a 2-3 hour ride and a 6-10 mile run as you say in your training, you'll have no difficulty finishing an oly, so a speed workout per sport per week is a good idea. I'd say make friday or saturday (just switch the days) into a brick workout. Those transition miles are important.

Sounds good, I'll definitely change a few things up. By slow, I mean 10min miles running, maybe 15mph on bike, and I'm not sure about swimming since I've been spending a lot of time in the water, but not really timing laps or distances. I'll know after Sunday's sprint though :)

I'll post my revised schedule to see what you all think. Thanks!

Looks good and I second the Gator.
One speed workout a week ,per sport, should be good...
I also recommed a few sprint tri's before the main event...
