Does anyone have experience with the Garmin Forerunner 205/305?
I have been eyeing the 205 to track my runs and possibly my bikes. I have been thinking about waiting until late summer when i begin marathon training to really consider it but was wondering how useful it may be for triathlon training. I don't want to step up to the 305 becuase I'll just use my current HRM and rather look like a fool wearing two watches to save some $$$$. Any thoughts.

Thanks

I currently have the 205 and love it. I use it when I bike and run and it has been very helpful. There are many features that you can use. I enjoy it because it hooks up to your PC and you are able to see on a map where you road or ran and you can keep track of personal notes on there about each workout. It also keeps track of calories burned, distance, pace, time, speed (if you are on a bike) I hardly train without it. There is a clip I believe you can get so it hooks to your bike too. I just wear mine when I am on the bike and it works just fine. I bought mine off of amazon.com and got a cheaper price then I could find anywhere else, but of course that was a year ago. I say go for it! :)

I have an Edge 305 and it's definitely a worhtwhile tool. I like being able to download the workouts, especially the runs, and compare and see my performance. And it's a good reality check in terms of how things are going.

I'm a happy 305 user, i love how it will break down your time in different HR zones for a sample of what your data will look like take a look at my data from a bike ride I did yesterday..
here

I use it a lot trail running and its great for a couple of reasons 1) can see exactly where I was 2) due to GPS built in can find my way back to starting point when I go off trail

only 3 kinda negatives to this as fas as I am concerned. Not water proof and it specifically recommends against swimming with it. Battery life, only being 10 hours per charge kinda limits if you wanted to take in on backpacking outing or even a full IM if thats your style. The final one is very minor and that is its weight its a decent hunk sitting on your wrist but nothing too bad just noticeable is all

Wow az, thats a lot of info for a little watch to provide. Any idea if you get the same kind of output with a 205 just minus the HR data?

whats the difference between Garmin Forerunner 305 and the edge 305 besides the ability to hook up cadance meters?

Yep... i believe you are correct. I have the 205 and its the exact same minus the HR. I wish i would have gotten the 305 last summer when i got mine, because i ended up buying a HR monitor anyways in the past month to try training with that.

Both the edge and the forerunner can use the Garmin cadence sensor =). The big difference between the two is deseign. While it is very much an opinion I would say that the forerunner was desiegned for runners and multi sport athletes much more then the edge. THe edge definatly has its advantages though too from what i've seen it would be much easier to read on the bike then the forerunner, but not enough so for it to have changed my mind.

Thanks, Jason, for the referral. Most of our business is from word of mouth. We're small but growing and we try hard to please our customers.

Glad to answer any questions anyone may have!

Best regards,

We've sold thousands of both the Edge 305's and Forerunner 305's. Inside they are pretty much the same. Form factor is the key difference.

I wouldn't want a Forerunner on my wrist if I were out mountain biking - it would be a distraction and a potential hazard. Opt for a handlebar mount if you want to use it for cycling (road or mountain), for safety's sake.

We do have runners that toss their Edge's into a small fanny and they are fine with using it that way. GPS reception on both models is great - they use the SiRF III chipset which has revolutionized sensitivity.

The Forerunner 305 is a great tool and we hear much positive feedback from owners.

I have used the forerunner 305 for the last year and I love it. It helps me know what days I ran how hard I tried the average and max of each speed\pace\distance\time\elevation\grade\heart rate\and any notes incase I want to make an excersize log. I came from the forerunner 201 because I wanted the HRM piece. As far as I know they are both the same. I wouldn't trade mine for the world it's one of the best tools I have.

Just ordered the 205, I plan on using it in conjunction with my HRM so i decided not to go for the 305. Found a great deal on amazon for $158 w/ free shipping (I checked GeoMan but amazon was just cheaper, sorry). Will let you know how it turns out.

Greetings!

We are seeing considerable traffic coming to our site from Trifuel so we thought it would be nice to build a rapport with your members over here.

We are offering free shipping on a Forerunner 305 to Trifuel users.

Use coupon code 065408f149 on checkout.

Here's our link to the Forerunner 305 at $229 including shipping (using the coupon above). We've sold about 500:1 Forerunner 305's to Forerunner 205's, BTW.

Amazon might be cheaper but you won't find them over at Trifuel posting and making friends ;) .

Thank you!
