Ironman Canada Registration
No, it should be ok to just stand there in the morning early. Line will be long but people that stand there the next morning get a spot. Lat year (sign up for the 2007 race that is the 25th aniversary) we stood in line and got in no prob. I wouldn't camp out.

Ah, but camping out can be fun!
I camped out the year before last - 2005 and a storm came up about 3am.
I had sensed something as I pitched my tent around 1am and staked the corners with tent pegs. The wind blew my tent flat on top of me three times during the night, but the fibreglas rods flexed and it stood back up again each time. Other people who had only bivouacked got soaked thoroughly. I woke about 8:30am got dressed leisurely and emerged to find myself at 80th place in a line that stretched a thousand people long. The people arriving at 5:30 - 6am I don't really know, had respected my place established by my tent as I snuggled cozily inside. Canadians (and our US neighbours) are so polite. I doubt this would have worked as well in Germany, but I dunno.
Last August I didn't have to camp as I had run the race the day before so I had a certificate and was allowed to register on Saturday - much better plan.
This year they may come up with yet another plan.

I am planning to register for IMC 2008. Should I expect to be camped out overnight to get a spot?
