Protein Shakes
Something instantized so that it mixes easily. Also, make sure it has a good bit of L-Glutamine in it as well. I'd look for at least 3 or 4 grams. Also, there should be over 20g total protein in a scoop. Avoid mass-gainers and things like NOXplode that have things that are more suited for body-builders (creatine and NO2). Oh, and don't expect it to taste incredibly great. Some taste good, but most don't.

Not fast enough.
I dont really like protein shakes mixed with water. Milk makes them a lot more tasty. Just grab some chocolate milk somewhere. All the extra protein in the shakes really isnt necessary.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Now whey Isolate protein is the best if you can use milk it will taste better. Best for price. I aslo use Cytosport/cytomax recovery. That taste great alittle pricing but does have some other goodies in it.
Hammer Whey has protien and 6 grams of Glutamine in it. Nice to take after a workout or before you go to bed. You can mix it up with fruit for a nice shake.

I'm a big fan of chocolate milk or even slim fast after a hard workout.

International Protein have a whey blend called Protein Synergy 5that is very tasty - chocolate truffle flavour. Mixes easily, is thick too and I only have it with water.
Per scoop it has 25g of protein and 6 grams of glutamine.

Yeah, some of the Slimfasts dont taste too bad at all. Buy em in the large size packages and its not pricey at all- cheaper than the "Recovery Drinks" marketed by all the sports companies and just as effective. And it keeps in the heat, but tastes better cold.

I like the taste of high protein "Boost" drinks. They're very portable, not too pricey, and they are still pretty yummy at room temperature.
i've been doing the ensure, boost route for a last couple of months and noticed it helped with recovery. but someone recently told me that ensure is not all that great for you. lots of added stuff and too processed. this came from a vegan who said soy milk is best. trying that route now. anybody have info on this? i doubt it has the glutamine.
also, trying to eat a more nutritive diet focusing on protein.

Soy protein really is fantastic. It absorbs really well and has a wide variety of amino acids, including a little glutamine. If you want to add more, you can buy glutamine powder. I add it to my protein powder after hard workouts. It is pretty expensive, though. I have a 1lb tub from GNC (lasts forever at 1 tsp servings), but it normally costs $70. I was lucky enough to get it for $25 recently (sale price + employee discount from one of my roommates:cool: )

cytosport's "muscle milk" (I buy at GNC) is a great product. Its slow release protein so its not ideal for post workout but is great as a between meal snack. I have cookies and cream and it tastes great with water or milk.
with water:
360 cals
18g fat
12g carbs
32g protein
+ loads of vits and minerals
w/ two scoops so you could reduce by half.
with milk
640 cal
I think its about a buck a serving too so not bad there.
I have been using a protein manufactured by GNC for about a year now and it seems to help me recover tremendously. I have previously only used it for marathon training, but as that seems to break my body down more than Tri training, it should also work for that purpose. It's called GNC 24 Hour-Release Protein 100% Whey (or something along those lines, just ask in the store); the stuff tastes good when mixed with just water, regular skim-milk, or fat-free chocolate milk and can be mixed quickly and on the go. It also only has 110 kcals/serving so it is not too filling either. Add a small scoop of glutamine to enhance the recovery process.
Power Bar recovery shakes
You can carry it where ever you go....chilled, and tastes really good, it has a good blend of aminoacids and electrolytes in a tasty chocolate flavor....I like it...

I'm a huge fan of AST products. My favorite protein for mixing with water is VP2 in Citrus Splash. It mixes fine with a spoon or in a shaker bottle. VP2 chocolate tastes better in milk.

Good Price too. Don't take too much protein; 2 shakes the most per day. Too much protein is rough on the stomach.

Which ones do you like? I am looking for something that I can mix with water and take to class and work with me after my workouts.
Thanks!
