I'm doing a 12 hour mtb as part of a team of three in a couple of weeks.

I was wondering in anyone here had some tips on stuff to bring etc.

Bring more food than you think you need.
Bring more water than you think you need.
If you're camping a good tent and a gore tex jacket are very nice to have.

But mostly, just bring flexibility (mental and physical), your sense or humor and your sense of adventure. You're going to need them.

And a good first aid kit.

I've done a couple of 24hrs, never a 12. What race are you doing?

Should be a blast!

I second the bringing more water than you think you could need!

For food make sure you bring a variety. There will be times you know you need to eat, and you just won't feel like it. So have tons of foods you crave and don't often have, and chances are something will sound good and it will be that much easier to get it down.

If lights are required, bring extra batteries and an extra light for the team in case of "issues".

Bring extra socks, and maybe extra mtb shoes. If there is a stream crossing, spending that long in wet shoes and/or socks will suck!

Bring extra bike shorts, and maybe some running shorts or casual shorts to hang out in between laps. Especially if it's a "taking turns" kind of team, where one person is on course at a time, you will likely have a bit of downtime. It will feel good to get out of the last round's spandex, and getting into looser ones can also feel great!

Bring a smile ;) Cheesey, but you gotta be ready for fun!

Does the race have a mandatory/optional support crew?

In looking at the race main page, 10 mile loop is a long haul for a MTB leg on your own. Seat-post racks are nice for keeping the weight off of your back - but you really only need to carry enough calories for an hour (assuming 7-11 mph average). A lightweight camelback (or a bento-box) should give you enough space to carry around 400 calories.

Eat at the transition/relay hand-off and halfway through the course. I imagine 200 should be enough to get you through to the next transition. You don't want to overeat or supersaturate your gut with too many calories - gastric fun awaits :)

Good luck, keep your upper body relaxed and keep those legs movin!

Cool. I'm doing this one for a fourth time this year:

Ten mile loops for us too. They go faster than you think. Just remember to eat and drink. And if you're doing single laps, shower after you ride you'll feel a lot better climbing back on later clean with fresh clothes.

Good luck.
