Portland transplant looking for 3athletes
Welcome to Portland. I am fairly new to triathlons, so I will try to help you out as much as I can. If you are looking to do any races, the best organized ones that I have found are on racecenter.com. They have a bunch of events that are put on by AA sports. My two favorite bike shops are Performance Bike in Beaverton and River City Bikes which is on the opposite side of river in Portland. I don't know of any clubs as I have never looked to join one. I like to ride out at Hagg Lake, if you park outside the park, you can ride around the lake which is a very hilly 10 mile loop that can be ridden a few times, also there is an access road that leads into Hagg lake that is several miles long can be ridden out and back. Another descent ride is the Spring Water Corridor. It is a 40 mile ride that is mosly on non road multi-use paths. I hope this helps
awesome, hagg lake is only 20 miles away. how do I get to the spring water corridor?
check out pdxtriclub.org, we have workouts throughout the week and we have a meeting this upcoming monday.
Yeah I will go. Hows the public transit up here? I wont have time to try it out before hand.
public transport is quite good. you can map out your routes at trimet.org
for cycling routes (commuter, not really for training), go to http://tripplanner.bycycle.org/ and select portland from the "select region" pulldown. then click on the "find a route" tab. just plug in the TO and FROM and voila!
check out portland's first downtown triathlon too at portlandtri.com and sign up (i'm not the RD, but i'm helping out)...it's september 2
you may want to go see your new competition, or just cheer. the blue lake triathlon is next weekend (sprint saturday, olympic sunday). a lot of local athletes participate in that one...

Portland Trifuelers,
After four grueling days in the car I have finally arrived in Hillsboro from DC. I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown of who the localist/best club is? What are the good bike shops, Where are the good rides, and when and where is some group training? I would prefer to stay on this side of town, as I don't know my way around at all. I noticed there are bike lanes almost everywhere - that is really cool. Is there a website that gives local routes? On my side of the world we have bikewashington.org. Thanks for the help.
