whoops
Pick which one placing higher at is more important. Do the other as a fun race. It's just a matter of sticking to that plan during the races :)

I did the same thing, kind of. I signed up for IMOO, and also signed up for a race series that has a swim, bike, run and x-country ski spread out over a year.
The 5 mile run is the Saturday after IMoo. Not looking to set a PB that day! I figure I'll just go and have fun and see how my body feels so soon after an IM!

See I disagree on that. While the oly isn't an IM distance race you still need some kinda taper to do well... I would say bag the sprint and just pick up the free t-shirt...

But you can't wear the shirt if you didn't do the race! ;)
I see what you are saying, but it sounds to me like it's a personal thing. I guess for some a sprint (taken easy, spinning light on the bike, chillin' through the run) would almost be the day before the race. Gotta listen to your own body on tapers like everything else... I guess that's part of what makes this sport interesting! There is no one formula for all of us.

Hey, I just did Triple T (sprint, 2 Oly's and 1/2 IM in 3 days).
It could be really fun to do both races, but you have to have a mindset of "I might not PR" if you do. Kinda depends on how short the sprint is. If it's an hour or less, it might not hurt your Oly race one iota.
What is key is nutrition on the day of the sprint. You will need to reload calories right away and begin stocking up for the next day, and I'd recommend you get in about 600 calories or more the morning of the Oly.
Also, Sat. after the race, spend as much time OFF YOUR FEET as possible. Also soak your legs in the cold lake or cold tub for 15 minutes (as tolerated) to help your recovery.
You will never know how well you could have done at both races unless you DO IT. The choice is yours!

so I did something dumb and just realized it.
I signed up for a Sprint on June 16. no big deal, just a fun day for a good workout.
However, I also signed up for an Oly on June 17, thats right, the next day. Normally I would just do both and take them easy. However, the Oly is the Des Moines Hy-Vee World Cup, and I know I'm not going to win but I wanted to place in the top 10 age group for that. I know full well if I do the Sprint then I won't place high in the Oly; however the Sprint is a small race and if I do that I will likely place top 5 and have potential for top 3.
I am so torn on what I am going to do, so I could really use some insight on this.
thanks
