Yay for me, I finally have a nice bike! Well, nice beginner bike. I bought a Trek 1000 and put Shimano clipless pedals on, and bought Specalized shoes and a Trek computer (along with the assorted blinky, bag, water bottle and cage, etc).

I had been riding a borrowed 15 year old Raleigh piece of crap - the difference is spectacular. I've already put in a pair of twenty mile plus rides (18 was my previous long) and a few shorter rides as well since Friday. I've never ridden with clipless pedals before and I have to say I am already more comfortable with them than I ever got with the toe clip on the other bike in two months.

Anyway, I was able to finance this purchase by selling my most prized possession - my 1984 Kawasaki GPZ 550. I got $900 for the motorcycle and by the time I was done buying the bike and extras, I had $2 leftover. Greatest $898 I've spend in my life. I am beside myself with excitement about my first race - the only problem is that it is too far away and I may need to pick up another one before hand.

congrats on the bike. I remember my first road bike, a trek 1500. One of the most reliable and good bikes I've had. None of the flash of my high end bikes but you will never forget your love of your first road bike.

let me know how you feel after your first century =)

I think the joy of a new bike is universal. The excitement of bringing it home and taking that first ride be it a century or just a spin around the block nothing beats it, enjoy!

My first road bike was a 91 Binachi Veloce and I remember telling my wife "this is all the road bike I will ever need"

I finally fell over on my bike yesterday. Probably my own fault because I was stupidly thinking to myself thirty seconds before "Hey - I think I mastered these clipless pedals without falling over."

I was getting ready to move from a stop sign that I had coasted into when car came around the corner faster than he should have so I had to stop completely. Wham. Fell right over before I could unclip.

Good news is that nothing was hurt but my pride. Which was fine when I pedalled away as fast as I could.

Welcome to cycling man! We have all been there.

The excitement of the first road bike. The first accident with the clipless pedals(never happened to me on my road bike! but it did on my MTB).

I remember the first time my bike hit the ground. I had stopped to "water some bush" left my bike beside a light pole and while "watering" just heard "blahhhmmm". I was more worried than if I had fallen with the bike. I know that felling.

Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)

Yeah, it did scrape the left pedal a bit, but the bike itself was fine and I'm not a huge aesthics guy anyway - I'm actually of the opinion that a little bit of grime and some scratches just proves i ride the thing rather than have it act as an ornament for my basement.

Indeed. I am the same way, pretty is only good to a certain extent. Besides mine is black, and we all know black == fast.

New bike, or even a new bike toy generally bring about the excitement, I replaced my tires the other day, and inanimately had to go for a good spin.

Congrats on the new bike.
