3 mile
I have the potential to run it in 15 minutes.
I CAN do it in about 19 but if I want to move when I'm done then I would need to slow it down.

24 minutes. I know. I'm slow.
One persons slow is anothers fast...someone elses fast is anothers slow...time is relative to you alone..You can do it...you're not on the couch...revel in what you are able to do.

AMEN TO THAT!!! (from the forever clydesdale contingency)
30 mins for me, on a good day!

Double Amen. I can do it in about 16 min, which is a good bit slower than all of my roommates...MUCH slower than one of them (he's high 14s....but he stinks at swimming).

Not fast enough.
My fastest 5k (3.1 miles) was 23:07. Not exactly blazing. On the plus side, that just happened 2 days ago at age 32. I've shaved almost 5 minutes off my 5k times from when I started tri 3 years ago, and nearly 3 minutes in the past year alone. Consistent training with increasing volume has been the key.
One of the big positives about starting running so late in life (relatively late anyway, I was 27 when I first ran a 5k), is that I get to see steady improvements even as the laws of nature say that my theoretical top speed is slowing down. Granted, I'm still many minutes slower than the front of the pack in my AG, and maybe always will be, but the gap has narrowed every year.
Anyway, Anton's point is the right one. The fact that you can run 3 miles at any speed, and actually do so on a regular basis, means that you are one huge step ahead in terms of fitness. Enjoy it.
The fastest timed 5K I ever ran was a 26:58 as a pure 5K back in 2000, and my fastest in a multisport event was a 27:27 2wks ago at a training duathlon, and personally I'm thrilled. I'll never run a 5:00mile, so I need to enjoy my own victories.
Anton is SO right. The ability to do it is awesome in itself. I'm a coach with Girls on the Run (http://www.girlsontherun.org) and this weekend over 1000 girls (including my special 20) crossed the finish line of a 5K here in Northern Virginia. My fastest 9yr old did it sub-24. My slowest in about 43min. But every single one of them achieved something that three months ago they didn't think possible. So as I tell them "Always try to be the best YOU that you can be" and that will be enough.
20:12 is my 5k PR and that is ok and everything from a human race perspective it works for me I gave it just about my all and thats the time I got.
It really does not matter, so long as its fun . My first 5k back in 2002 was about 32 min. By November, I had it down to 22 with xc. My best 5k is 19 min, with my best tri 5k split at 21 min.
Last timed 5k was back my freshman year in college at 17:52. I'd imagine with the much larger distance focus and much smaller speed focus nowdays that I'm a bit slower :p

I don't know...but I may enter a local 5k on Memorial day just to find out. Last Friday did a 30 minute LTHR run test and I covered 4.6 miles in 30 minutes. Not fast, but a good bit quicker than I was last spring when I first started running! I would hope I could do just under 20 for 3 miles.

i used to be able to do a 19 minute 3 mile - 10 years ago (when I was a smoker, no less). Unfortunately, at the peak of my running abilities I stopped for ten years and just started again last fall. I was running a TWO mile in 30 minutes when I started, but now I'm down to about 25 for a three mile. I haven't done my first tri yet, so I have no idea what that will translate to after the swim and run.
my fastest tri 5k is about 24mins.. havn't done a 5k on it's own, but i'm hoping this year to get 5k solo effort down to 20-21..
Ive done it 17:56, but only once and on a track. In a race? thats a little different...
