I was ranked around 1,700th in the 35-39 age group. I am hoping to improve by 1,000 or so spots this year, now that I think that I know what I am doing.

I didn't race enough to be ranked :(

This year though...

I was 120th in Men 35-39. I would like to see if I can crack the top 50 this year, but with 2 IM's and 2 Olympics I have planned, I may not be racing enough, even with my IMAZ finish and with Kona. The rankings system favors people who race a lot of USAT races, especially smaller ones where they can dominate. I don't just show up at a local srpint races to blow everybody away just to pad my standings but I know people who do! Nobody here, but some locals here in AZ, including a pro.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!

Interesting - anyone know how they calculate those scores?

There is a description of the process on the USAT web site. They have changed it somewhat for 2007, the biggest difference being you need to complete 3 or more races to be ranked instead of 2 last year.

Interesting - I found the link here.

You're right: oddly enough, they don't appear to weight large races any differently than small races.

I forgot to mention I was ranked 1616 in mens 25-29. I thought it was cool to be ranked seeing as last year was my first season in triathlons. Hey red thats awesome! How's it feel to be an all-american? :)

Rock on Red!
Qualifying for Kona is a personal dream for me. I'll take baby steps for now and work my way up. My next goal is to do 70.3 with a respectable time. Brent:)

As long as you did two USAT races last year, you're ranked. It's just a question of where you are ranked. For the record, the number of races required to be ranked this year is back up to three- which is what it was before 2006.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

first year of serious racing and I was on the list! I might have been at the bottom but it was cool to see my name, gotta love that not many 20-24 year olds race.

I ended up 1816 in M30-34, my second year. Still cool seeing your name in there. My kids had fun searching the lists for it. They thought it was real cool that their dad's name was in the magazine.
