Saturday was my first olympic triathlon and I think I'm in love! What a great race, really enjoyed the course. The day started off on the wrong foot though, The water that was in the 80's the day before dropped to wetsuit legal for the swim and guess who doesnt' have a wetsuit? thats' right me. Oh it gets better about 1:30 before my wave starts my goggles strap comes undone and I'm frantically trying to get it back together, I get it just in time. The swim is a down and back. the first half is against the current and to add to that my goggles are taking on water like crazy! needless to say I fininshed in 35:20( slow) get to T1 grab my classic of a bike and head out to the 2 loop bike course which was flat and fast. I'm thinking this is great until I make the fist turn around which we had to go around a car and guess what I take the turn to sharp and almost wreck thank god I corrected in time but now I've loosend my seat post to the point where its turning. I make it through my second lap unscathed get to To T2 in 1:20:15 and go to rack the bike and bang my bike falls to the ground and my seat is hanging on the pole, at this point I just laughed I racked it with the front handle bars and got my running shoes on and took off. The first part of the run was on trail which was in the shade so that was nice and then to street for most of the race, now comes the hard part the last 1.5 miles on the beach with the last 500 yards on soft high sand, finished the run in 1:00:53 and place 3rd in the clydesdale category for 1-39. You know one would think with all of the mishaps I would be upset but all in all I had a great time for my first olympic and can't wait to do more. Oh and by the way I was proudly wearing my 2007 trifuel kit black is definately slimming! Good luck on all your races this year! Brent:)
