Power for me....online coach??
I'd check out the forums/etc on Crucible Fitness. I've heard good things about Rich, and he does a lot with power meters -- clinics, book, etc.
Best of luck, and good job on deciding to get the most out of the tool :)
CTS (carmicheal training systems) has a coaching program that analyzes and trains with power I believe.
Also Triaining peaks has an online program: http://www.trainingpeaks.com/trainingplans/richstrauss/
You've got the gadget it'd be a waste to not use it properly like you mentioned. Is there somewhere you can get your baseline tests done?
Which one did you get? Power Tap? Power Cranks?
It would be helpful to have a coach who uses power, but that being said, I use a power meter and my coach doesn't give me power delineated workouts. I think the best benefit of a power meter is to guage your effort level during intervals. That is, know you power at LT (have to do a 30 minute all out test and find the average power) then use that number to see where your power level should be at during intervals. It can also be useful if say you are blowing yourself up too early on longer rides, you know that even if you feel good at first that you should hold back and stay in a power range that is more evened out.
Power is a great tool.
Don't forget that the first thing you need to do is just get out there and ride as much as possible with your new PM. Do short fast rides, long slow endurance rides, races, etc. Get as much data as possible and then when you get your coach or just decide to coach yourself you will have plenty of information to build up your training plan.
Also make sure you read up on PMs and the BEST book out there in my opinion is Training and Racing with a Power Meter by Hunter Allen and Andrew Coggan. They are kind of the godfathers of power and everything out there now is based on their work and theories.
Welcome to power! Your riding is about to change forever!

Thanks for the links guys, looks like I'll be using an online coach for definite now!! mdd thanks for the book.... was wondering what one to get!!
Vanjames, I am getting the SRM cranks. I know they are more expensive than the rest...by some way... but my reasoning is this, I've only got one set of wheels at the minute, that means putting the powertap on them, great for the time being. Now when I eventually purchase race wheels, I would want it on them to know how to gauge my effort in the races which then means if they are on my rce wheels then I can't use it during training without getting the whole wheel rebuilt again... well thats what i thought anyway..... next best thing was to go for the SRMs, then I can just switch it over to my tri bike... when i eventually get one of them!!
You mentioned getting base tests done..? Do you mean things like lactate or CP30 tests??
Exactly. So you know your different levels and starting point.
Theres a short article on pezcyclingnews.com regarding power cranks and test results you may be interested in.
Cheers for all the info guys, looks like I'm gonna have to start saving again for an online coach as well now!!

After my post last week I have decided to get a power meter, now being new to power, is this something that you can just pick up from a book or is it something that is going to take me about 4 years and a physics degree to actually understand what infact that little number on the read out means...
With this in mind..... is it better to pay for one of these online coaching services that specifically use power in their training schedules and learn from them or is that not worth the money?
I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new gadet and then not know how to use it properly!!
Any advice much appreciated!!
