Hey,

So I recently bought a 06 tacoma:cool: but am looking for better ways to store the bike then putting a towl down and throwing it in the bed (hey its a new truck don't want to destroy just yet...). The only options I have really seen are ones that mount on the rail system which would leave aerobars/handlebars sticking up over the cab of the truck which I dont really like (won't clear parking garage I park in). So looking for something I can put in the bed of the truck, preferably something that doesn't require drilling, and hopefully something that will be somewhat secure that I wouldn't mind leaving for a few minutes.

I've seen some good setups with the fork attachments just in the base of the truck -- sometimes attached to a 2 by 4. Yakima makes some attachments like that, and I believe they do locks as well for them.

I've got the rack made by Delta Cycles (http://www.deltacycle.com/product.php?g=35). It sits low in the bed, doesn't require you to drill any holes, and I haven't had any problems with it. I can mount three bikes on the rack with no problems.

I recommend this rack to anyone who owns bikes and a truck. Delta's website also shows this rack as being mountable in an SUV, although I don't have any experience with how it works for an SUV..

I think this is the third or fourth time through this question.

I had a Chevy S-10 and I used Kyillee's method, with one change. 2x6 instead of 2x4. Heavier and more stable. Wood and two fork mounts can get you a solid rack for under $45. And if you have to leave the truck, just run a simple cable lock through the frame/rear wheel and a cargo tie down in the bed worked fine.

I was having the same problem with my nissan pickup. I just got the "bed rider" by thule. it's essentially a tension rod with bike mounts on it. its kind of expensive at $150 dollars, but you can put it anywhere in the bed of your truck so the aerobars dont hit the back window or have to stick over the top. it was really easy to install also.

I drive a truck too, and was faced with the same issue. I went with the Yakima Bedhead because it didn't take drilling any holes and was cheaper than the other options below. It puts the saddle and handlebars about even with the top of my cab, so hopefully a parking garage wouldn't be an issue. Also, some other options to consider are racks that mount on the truck's trailer hitch or ones that hook on to the end of the bed and hold the fork and bike inside the bed.
