The most interesting part is that Floyd did not say that he doesn't have any info.

it seems clear to me that Landis knows something and he's now using the media to gauge public reaction

don't forget I started another site for filing these types of stories ;), I'm pulling the latest headlines onto the Trifuel home page.

Tyler was suspended until cleared of the Operation crap. Weird cause he just came off 2 years suspension. When does his involvement date back too? Was he doping during his suspension?

No Giro for him. bummer!

I admit to not knowing all that much about pro cycling, but isn't it true that Lance was tested multiple times over the last 7 years of his career. If he never tested positive what is the point of continuing to make allegations against him?

I would venture to say that Lance was the most tested athlete in the world during his reign over professional cycling. Everything, to my knowledge, came back clean. Although the French have always tried to pin stuff on him.

I think the issue with Lance is that he was sponsored by one of the largest drug companies in the world. Bristol Meyers Squibb. So while he never tested positive, tho tested more than anyone, USADA and the French think he was on drugs not yet on their radar or had better ways of masking it.

I've always defended Lance. Innocent until proven guilty. But with all the guys who still got beat by him on the drugs (Basso, Ullrich, Landis?, Hamilton) it's getting harder to defend him and the sport.

Whatever, the french were caught red handed trying to mess with Lance's test to show that he was doping when he wasn't. This whole agency is so currupt and anti-american it's retarded. I am not going to even worry about it because there are no officials in the cycling world that are clean.

never trust a prosecutor trying to make a name for himself. still on the fence w/ landis. can't believe a lab would try and deliberately screw over a guy but landis has done a decent job casting a shadow of a doubt on the testing.

Basso and Ullrich never tested positive. I bet you they have been tested a lot too. They just happened to go to the wrong doctor.

i would not put anything past the french in a sport where they have not had a really good grand tour racer in many years, and the americans have dominated them on their own turf for almost the last decade. how can one explain how the tests before and after stage 17 were negative?

I did plenty of time as a monitor for drug testing in the military and don't understand the confusion. You test the urine or blood and it's either hot or not. Can international cycling not get a competent neutral party to perform this task? Geez.

From my experience you're found guilty and suffer the consequences rather fast. These things shouldn't drag out forever.

But as long as you're using an allegedly biased testing lab, all bets are off.

Do they drag out so because they are civilian while in the military it doesn't? Civilian courts and lawyers can sure drag things out. (No offense meant to anyone who earns their living by the law.) Pro bike riders are human and money and fame speak quite loudly. I've never held these guys up as heros....so I'm not surprised. As a German chemist friend of mine says..."The better the money, the better the masking agent."

Good points. Sometimes I wonder if LeMond or Indurain were the last, great, clean riders.

Hot or not....it's unfortunately not that simple of a test. The drugs used predominently in the military are tested differently than the drugs used in the professional cycling world. For example, not many pot smokers riding the Tour.

Also, it is a fine line between art and science to test these cyclists (cat and mouse game). Professional endurance althletes sometimes have different reactions occuring in their bodies than military soldiers.

Beke is a perfect example. Scientists couldn't figure it out for 18 months then finally said "oh, ok, you actually didn't dope...err...sorry Mr. Beke" he was like "no sh!t".

This drug testing dilema is starting to sound like the death row dilema when many death row inmates were exonerated once DNA technology was used.

Saw that too--it's the main article on cnn.com right now as well. Just crazy. I don't know what role Landis may have had, but it's pretty clear that his business manager is a disgusting, and quite stupid, human being.

The irony is that LeMond's testimony did not have to be all that damaging. He never said that Landis admitted doping to him, so a good attorney might have spun the meaning of Landis's alleged comments all sorts of ways. (In addition, I would have thought there was an argument that LeMond's testimony was inadmissible hearsay, but that might be a stretch and I don't know if the arbitration hearing follows standard rules of evidence or not).

lemonds testimony wasn't all that damning especially considering the drug test and lab are really on trial here but makes landis look desperate and in my opinion guilty - why try to f#$K w/ a witness if your lawyers can tear him a new one on cross examination. really stupid play

Since Landis basically looks like or is a liar, who would believe him if he did give up Lance? Unless he has physical evidence, it would look like he was lieing to get a lesser suspension.

Exactly - It is such a stupid move - hard to believe that Landis would have been aware of it. Well he fired the guy - will see if he acted on his own or not.
Really no matter what the outcome - Landis and the sport is so tarnished - very sad.

Witness tampering...not good.
But here is what I thought was interesting..it's what we in Washington call a "Non-denial,denial." He doesn't deny using...just that it would hurt alot of people..
"I would hope and encourage you to come clean," LeMond said he told Landis.
"What good would that do," LeMond said Landis replied. "If I did, it would destroy a lot of my friends and hurt a lot of people." (thanks to abc news)

On a side note...I know many Euros including French...It's funny... I never hear them say things like "F*** Americans!" even though they disagree with our current Middle Eastern Situation. Disagree with with the agency or the lab...but to slam a nation for drug test results...tsk,tsk. I kindly remind folks, as I seem to have to from time to time...If it wern't for the French you'd be playing cricket ( a fine game ,actually) and having tea right about now (EST)
