I think it probably is personal preference, but I like mine pretty tight. I don't want the armholes chaffing. And especially if it is a non-wetsuit swim it is nice to have as little drag as possible.

It is a personal choice but you want it very snug esp if you plan to wear it beneath a wetsuit. Bunching up under a suit isn't good. And you don't want a top flapping in the wind on the bike, so again, snug is best. But too snug and it will ride up your back. Test a couple out for comfort and go with what works for you.
