Which IM is flattest?
CDA has very few hills. As for Louisville I have no idea. Check the elevation maps. If you want real flat, go FL...
florida ironman is very flat only 1 hill going up a bridge.
proud and high or low and humble - many miles before I go

Louisville is supposed to have a pretty flat run. The course is up at http://ironman.com/assets/files/races/louisville/maps/2007/run.pdf but doesn't have a profile... I gmap-pedometer'ed it before the map of the course was out (just turn by turn directions - so it is a bit off) but you can see that at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=865944.

IMKY is a little flatter but AZ is even more flat then both by far. BUT LET ME WARN YOU KNOW BECAUSE I DID IM AZ THINKING FLAT IS FAST AND EASY, WRONG!!! We had 50 mph wind gust out there. This was the second year of the torrid wind gusts since it's inception 3 years ago.
IMCDL has some rpetty decent hills from what I hear but I have no idea what the IMKY course is going to look like. In term of elevation gain, IMFL is by far the flatest.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
CDA is very hilly, the just got a new bike course, so haven't heard all the details yet. Not 100% sure on Louisville. My friend did IMFL and she said it was extremely flat.

Click on the link above and scroll down to the bottom and click on "Click Here" and that will take you to an interactive link that compares the elevation changes of the IM races. Louisville hasn't been added but all the others are there. There is also a bike elevation change chart on the bike course page.

Ya, maybe so but the humidity will KILL you. I have been in FLA and it's not a pretty pic if it's humid.

Its November---should not be humid :)
although--there are exceptions, this Januarys DW marathon is a perfect example although rare
Yeah, my mom lives in Boca Raton, FL, and I have spent a ton of time down there over the years. It's very nice in Nov, especially in Panama City where thee race is, which is up on the pan handel. It's VERY cool their in Nov and dry.

Not fast enough.
Those comparison charts are really cool. The IMC and IMUSA bike charts are crazy. I wish they'd put IMKY in there so I can have an idea what to expect.

Definitely Florida (its actually kinda boring 'cause you're in the saddle the entire ride)...but get a little adventurous and go to IM Germany or IM Austria :D Those are two of the "fastest" bike courses around...

First off just a note... while there are differences in the bike courses as well, from the original post it sounded really like the poster is interested in the run course because of previous injuries... not to fine the "easiest" course (we know there isn't one with weather, wind, etc).

Don't hold your breath. That is maintained by NASports, and they aren't putting on IMKY.

How long have you had ITB issues. .What are you doing to rectify them? You may be resolved by this time next year and be open to every race. Don't limit yourself too early.

Florida is only a giant SANDBAR that's it :)

Considering it's right along the Gulf, I could imagine. You get some powerful wind coming across the water!

Here is a link to the bike course. It does include an elevation chart.

Thanks for the help everyone.
I haven't been able to run more than a couple of miles for 9months or more becasue of ITB pain. I finally went to physical therapy, and after a few months of strengthening and working on my flexibility I'm up to ~20-25 miles a week. That was only by avoiding hills like the plague though.
But now I'm starting to work in some hills, and so far so good.
But you are right Vanjames, hopefully my ITB trouble is a thing of the past now that I'm a bit stronger and stretchier, and I hope I'll continue to be good until next summer.
But that was my only reason for searching out the flattest run.
It looks like FL is the flattest, but I need a summer event.
Does anyone know what the Loiuisville run looks like?
Thanks again for all the help!

This is true. Thanks kyillee. Biking never hurts the ol' right knee. I'm most concerned about the run.
But it is still fun to read about all the courses on all the events.
You may want to consider IM Canada - although the bike is hilly, if your knee isn't bothered, the run is relatively flat, one hill at the halfway mark of the marathon is all I can remember.

I did post a link earlier to info on the Louisville run... and the gmap-pedometer link there does have an elevation option (as I said in the original post it was based on turn by turn directions - so it is a bit off, but you get the general idea at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=865944).
I'd agree with the hopes that the ITB will heal! I had issues with it due to banked roads in a marathon (and only a few hills... it was the banking that got me) and haven't had the same major issues with it since I let it heal.

Hi,
Between Coeur d'Alene and Louisville, which has fewest hills?
I am planning on a doing my first ironman next summer. I have some IT band friction issues that is exacerbated by hills, so I wanted to do the one with fewest hills on the run. But I have no idea what any of the courses are like.
Travel isn't an issue, although I live closest to Louisville. Arizona might be a possibility too.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!
